Weight loss?

First off, I know nobody on here can give medical advice and I am planning to see my doctor soon (only 5 weeks today).

Looking to see if anyone else has had a little weight loss since finding out they were pregnant? I was already a healthy weight and still am, but seem to have dropped 3 lbs in the past week even though I'm eating my normal healthy diet and overindulging sometimes. I'm still going for walks and to the gym but doing lighter workouts and listening to any fatigue. No MS yet, so it is not caused by food aversions or vomiting.

Maybe it's just a little muscle loss or the effect of no beer, but did anyone have this happen? Did you start gaining after?

Re: Weight loss?

  • My weight always fluctuates by a couple pounds, but a week or two after finding out, I was on the lowest end of my range, even slightly under.  I think it's because I stopped getting Starbucks every morning and cutting out all the wine!

  • Nothing wrong with losing weight first tri.  Look at it this way - the amount of energy you're expending right now is equivalent to running a marathon every day.  Your body is working hard to grow this little baby.  Your body is probably burning a ton of calories to do this.

  • I lost about 5 lbs my first trimester last time and ended up gaining between 25-30 lbs overall. It's normal. Your body is using lots of energy to make the baby :)

Phew thanks all! I figured the energy of baby-growing has something to do with it but I don't normally fluctuate that much, especially with the extra treats I've had lately. I've heard a lot of overweight women lose a lot in the first trimester because of healthy changes, but I started with a healthy weight/diet so wouldn't want to dip into borderline underweight!

Hopefully things level off and I gain a normal healthy amount by the end! For now, more guacamole! :D
  • I have lost about 4 pounds too. I think it's cutting out the beer/wine and my body using more energy!
  • I have lost 8lbs so far, I am 7 weeks today. It is most likely that you are eating and drinking healthier mixed with morning sickness. I always lose weight the 1st trimester and go on to gain the weight.
