Anyone go into labor before their induction?

I had my weekly appointment this morning (I'm 38+5) and I am still 1cm and 50% effaced (this was the same case a week and a half ago). My OB mentioned that she likes to schedule inductions ahead of time so I'm scheduled to be induced July 29 --- "just in case." I hope to not have to wait that long, but I'm already feeling defeated because my recent period-like cramps haven't helped me progress in anyway and I don't believe I have experienced any good contractions (I'm a FTM). I've done the whole yoga ball, walking, sex, etc...not neurotically but I've done them either every day or every other day.

I'm wondering how many of you have gone thru similar situations and whether or not you ended up going in to labor on your own?

Re: Anyone go into labor before their induction?

  • With my first I was scheduled to go to the hospital on a Friday morning to be induced. I ended up going into labor on my own Thursday night. I hadn't dilated or anything prior to going into labor.

  • FTM as well, I sat at 1 cm for almost a month with no signs of impending labor. I was scheduled for a 41 week induction at my 40 week appt, was getting very frustrated. 3 days later, my water broke and I ended up getting admitted but still got pitocin bc I still wasn't having contractions. She was born less than 12 hrs after arriving at the hospital.
  • The morning of my induction I was too call two hours ahead to make sure they had a bed. So that meant 4am I ess calling.they were very busy, induction pushed back, call again at 8am. Well, after waking up to call contractions started coming and within an hour were pretty regular and intense so we ended up going in.(at the same time we would have gone for an induction!) Got the last bed, I was in active labor! Little man wanted to make good on our scheduled start time I guess!

I was scheduled to be induced Friday morning but my water broke Thursday night. Long labor he came Friday anyway, but at least on his own time :-) I was exactly 41 weeks
  • I'm in early labor now... Induction scheduled for tomorrow... So we shall see! My due date was July 21st. And I'm having contractions every 10 mins now... Im excited and nervous! :-S ;;)
  • Me! At 36 weeks 3 days i had a pelvic exam and was not dilated at all but my cervix was softened. I had been having extremely painful Braxton hicks for 24 hours and was sure that i had dilated, but nothing. My Braxton hicks continued all week and my doctor decided they were going to induce me at 39 weeks (because my baby was measuring in the 4th percentile -once he was born he's actually not even on the growth charts he's in the .94%) on Friday I was 37 weeks and went in for a pre scheduled NST in the morning, baby seemed happy and they could see that I was still having contractions but didn't see any reason to send me to labor and delivery. Then that night at midnight my baby started freaking out in my stomach like constantly doing somersaults and kicking for an hour straight which was not at all normal for him so I decided to go to labor and delivery to get checked out, they did another NST and everything seemed fine but when they did a pelvic exam I was dilated 5 cm! I was not at all expecting to have a baby that night! But they admitted me and I began having extremely painful contractions and then after the doctor broke my water I had my son at 9 am the next morning at 37 weeks and 1 day! I'm sure you didn't need all of that lol but for the week leading up to that I was eating lots of pineapple, having sex, drinking 4 cups of raspberry tea a day and running a bunch of errands and I'm sure all of that helped!
  • Thanks everyone for your stories. It makes me feel much better. I think between the boredom and impatientness I just want to meet my little girl. Progress seems to be happening though on my end either way -- I think I lost my mucus plug or part of it this evening. We shall see what happens... I know this can still indicate a long process but still, progress. :-bd
  • Mine kicked her way through the amniotic sac three days before the scheduled induction, but then nothing happened, so I had to get induced anyway...  It was all fine in the end!
