Pain! What was that all about?!

Yesterday I had terrible stomach pain. Terrible! So painful I was doubled over and couldn't walk.

I'm 18 weeks along and the pain was above my belly button - so I assume it wasn't the Little Bean or the pain would have been lower. If I pressed on my stomach it hurt worse. I was pretty scared and called my doc who said as long as I wasn't bleeding, it was probably a pulled muscle.

But today I'm pain free. Anyone have any thoughts on what that could have been? Experience anything like it? Could it have been gas?! Sometimes you hear about people mistaking intense gas pains for a heart attack...

Re: Pain! What was that all about?!

  • Sometimes if I haven't pooped (TMI? Everyone poops, though, so whatevs) recently enough then I get a lot of pain through by entire abdomen. How's your digestive system doing?

It could have been gas. Could have been growing pains; I've been getting pains occasionally the day before I notice my belly gets a bit bigger. Could have been a lot of things, though, but I wouldn't worry about it unless you're bleeding or it's unbearable. Pregnancy comes with pain, unfortunately.

  • I DO think I'm actually bigger than I was yesterday!

Thank you so much- sometimes you just need to know that you're not alone. Ya know?

  • Sounds like severe gas pain to me. I get that even when I'm not pregnant! Try an antacid like Renee, or drink hot water with fresh lemon. It can give you heartburn but cuts through gas really well. I found out I'm lactose intolerant so I now drink lactose free milk and avoid cheese and cream, sorted the gassies right out haha! Good luck, hope the pain stays away
  • If it is gas, swallow a spoonful of plain yellow mustard. The turmeric in it helps beat gas.
  • The times that I've been, sorry, constipated and could not for the life of my go I felt a sharp pain in my gut. Maybe that is why? But if that was your case I bet you would know.
  • Sharp pain where you describe would have meant gas for me. I have to take a walk after meals otherwise I feel it build and it's sharp pain when I move. I drink non flavored seltzer water and walk, it helps me burp it or "process" it out.
  • It is likely gas or constipation - I have both in abundance and most mornings, i wake up and need help getting upright because the pain is so miserable, i feel like my abdomen is going to split in two.

Combine that with round ligament pain and you've got a recipe for misery.
  • Gas or Constipation maybe? I know when I get gassy, or constipated even, I get the same pain! And include round ligament pain with it all...Ugh! Especially when you're finally able to go to the bathroom, and those ligaments REALLY ache... #:-S :((
  • I had the same feeling yesterday after dinner with my family.. I was speeding to get home because the pain was so bad I thought I was going to puke. Very similar to stomach aches I would get every once in awhile before being pregnant.... just chalked it up to gas/constipation. Once I got out a decent BM and laid down I felt a TON better.
