High blood pressure after delivery?

I delivered a week and 3 days ago and can't seem to shake this high blood pressure. The doctor did put me on blood pressure medicine, but it seems to still remain elevated. Has anyone else had experience with this and for how long did it last? Everything went so smoothly except for the Bp and I have to admit, it really scares me.
