Screaming in car

Anyone else has a terrible car rider?? So we have a summer place 2 hours away and we go there every weekend. Last weekend I timed LO and she cried for 30 minutes none stop and I'm talking to turn bright red scream at the top of your lungs cry, then would rest for 5 minutes and start again for another 30 minutes. I stopped to feed her and change her and everything but It went on the whole 2 hours. My first did the same thing....why do my kids hate the car so much??? Anyone else have the same issue?? My first was bad in the car until we turned her around at 18 months.

Re: Screaming in car

  • Does she use a pacifier? That helps my LO on a car ride but it also requires a passenger to help keep it in her mouth until she is calm enough on her own or if she drops it
  • If I sit in the backseat and hold a paci in her mouth and hold both hands, I can sometimes make her not scream.

  • I've noticed my LO will scream and cry if she is over tired! If she has just been fed she is fine, if she is on the verge of sleeping she will sleep. I have also noticed if it's hot, she gets sweaty and makes her mad, and then she gets even more hot! Maybe your LO gets hot?
  • Mine does the same thing. She hates the car and taking walks. Very frustrating!

No she won't take a pacifier or a bottle for that matter. I always plan my trips or just going out of the house around feeding her so she goes in having ate. She might sleep some of the way but the second you stop all hell breaks loose.

  • My DS has just started to scream in the car (he used to love it and would fall asleep instantly). Sometimes it works to put on white noise. I just put the radio to static. But it's not consistent that it works for him. Might be worth a try for your LO.
  • Story of my freaking life.
  • Windows down? Sometimes works. My LO gets hot and sweaty and hates being wet- if he's dry he's usually ok
  • If it wasn't so hot, I would try to swaddle in the car. https://www.thinglink.com/scene/455451789097959424

Right now I'm just try to get him used to the car seat, a short ride everyday.
  • I'm in the same boat! She SCREAMS and shrieks, practically hyperventilating from the second we put her in the car seat until I take her out. We've tried everything- making sure she's fed/changed, toys for her to look at, pacifier, white noise, windows down, soft lullabies, me sitting in the back with her, holding her hand etc. etc. etc. She will literally scream, turn bright red and get all sweaty until you take her out of the seat. I don't know what else to do, but I have to take her places sometimes (might I add, 90% of these rides are 10 minutes or less!)
