Double middle names? Hypenated middle name?

Anyone doing this? We are naming our baby if it's a girl Norah. My daughter wants her to be Norah Lucy. It doesn't go. She suggested Norah Lucy-Jean or Lucy Jean. Or scrap using Lucy. Our middle name options are:
Josephine
Rae
Lucy
Jean

Help! Yes I know there is a name board. I don't like change. Lol!

Re: Double middle names? Hypenated middle name?

  • My 5 year old daughter has two middle names, Michelle rose. We plan for two middle names with this child too and all future.
  • Loading the player...
  • I like Lucy Jean as a middle name. My 12yo daughter also has two middle names- Zoey Jean. She says that she likes having two middle names. (Plus she goes by Zoey, rather than by her first name- but that's a really long story.)
  • I have two middle names and find that it doesn't fit well on forms. Just a FYI.
  • I think that Nora Jean or Nora Rae flow nicely. Unless the name Lucy has some sort of special meaning I would drop it.
  • I have two middle names, so does my sister. Hers flow better mine not so much but they dont bother me i rarely have to say or write all my names.
  • We were actually wanting to use two middle names… For those of you that already have two middle names, do you use them both for legal documents i.e. passport or do you just use the first initial of the names?
  • Lucy and Jean have significance... Hmmmm what to do.. Ugh
  • Well, in that case I do think Nora Lucy Jean is cute. I wouldn't put in a hyphen.
  • @BostonBaby1 my daughter passport has her full name. Most other important forms just ask for a middle initial which would be the first letter of the first middle name only.
  • DS has two middle names. No hyphen. Baby #2 probably will if she's a girl, not likely for a boy.

We're planning a double middle name for this baby, if he's a boy. No hyphens.
  • @BostonBaby1 DH has two middle names not hyphenated. He uses them on all legal documentation. I love that his parents gave him a name they liked as well as a family name. Ideally I'd like to do the same for our daughter but having a hard time finding something that works!

Thanks ladies! One of my friends has three middle names and she uses her first name and then three initials and then the last name. I've never seen her passport though. I think she legally changed her last name when she got married, and it's probably changed back now that she's divorced. Can you imagine the paperwork?

Hyphens in names are a bad idea.

Any web form the kid fills out from here on in will error as most name textboxes are set up to only accept Alpha characters.

Source: I have written a skillion of these forms. And name text boxes basically say "if there is anything in here other than letters, return the user to the form and scold them"
  • Well I think I'm going to save Lucy and Jean and use Norah Josephine or Norah Evangeline! Lol!
