Calming Baby

I'm sure we all have those moments where nothing seems to soothe our fussy LO. I thought it might be good to share what we have found works for us. Maybe something can help a fellow mama when she's at a loss.

My LO LOVES when I rub her legs! I never would have thought about it but it's the most comforting thing ever for her!

Re: Calming Baby

  • Patting his bum while rocking.

DH will hold him under his neck and bum and repeatedly lift him in the air.

And for any Friends fans out there - the rocking motion that Monica does with Emma when she won't stop crying. My DS loves it!! It stops the crying and usually puts him to sleep. And bonus: if you do it long enough it's a decent leg workout ;)
  • Usually when he is fussing I can fix it by feeding him. Otherwise, letting him stand on his feet and bouncing him tends to make him happy, my MIL is amazing at bouncing him in her arms, he stops screaming in less than 5 minutes (my husband and I haven't mastered that yet), this morning he was so unhappy no matter what I did (fed him, changed him, bounced him, swing, pacifier) so finally I went and laid in bed with him and he cuddled up with me and fell asleep within 15 minutes. And my husband likes to bounce him in his arms while walking circles throughout the house, that tends to help as well.

  • Bringing her outside usually calms my LO instantly. Also if I am sitting I lay her along my legs with her legs on either side of my hips (she's long) and I hold her head with my hands and sway her from side to side and she's falls asleep within minutes. That works well even when she is fighting sleep in the evenings
  • Mine just wants her own, living pacifier (my breast).
  • My girl loves her hair played with or head rubbed
  • Rubbing the back of his head towards the front. Laying him on his left side and walking around. Repeating this mantra in a soothing tone: "your mommy loves you. Your daddy loves you. Your grandmas love you, etc". Singing "all my loving" by the Beatles. I did that with my niece and nephew and they always fell asleep!
