2nd Trimester

Nausea sooo bad. Please help.

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and my nausea is so bad that I dread to wake up in the mornings. It seemed like it was starting to fade out around week 9 and then when week 13 hit and I was throwing up everything just about. I'm thinking about calling my doctor to see if she can give me something for it. I had phenergen the first month but it made me so sleepy and gave me the worst migraines so I had to stop taking it. I just want some advice on what might help the nausea (because saltines aren't really helping at this point. Lol) and why it might be getting worse. Please help.

  • I'm sorry you are having a hard time with the nausea. I had nausea a very long time. 8 months. I used to sleep with a bag of cheerios and water next to me so as soon as I woke up I would eat and that helped. Try not to let your stomach be empty. I used to eat small meals every two hours. I also had luck with eating protein and avoiding anything the least bit acidic. I was prescribed zofran for nausea but I see that one as a bad drug on tv now. Even if you are throwing up still eat and drink water. Dry heaving is awful.
  • Vitamin B6 and half of a unisom before bed. It has worked three times for me now. Good luck!
  • No home remedies worked for me! I had to take zofran and finally at 20 weeks it's calming down. I would do it over again if I had to and I didn't want to take anything in the beginning, doctors explained to me millions of moms take zofran and the babies are fine
  • I agree with the vitamin B6 and unisom. I did a quarter B6 pill and a half unisom pill until my doctor prescribed disclegis for me, which is the same thing, just time released. (Buy a pill cutter!). This helped but it didn't completely take it away. Mine got worse at 14 weeks too and went away at 16. Ask your pharmacist what you can do. My insurance company gave me a hard time with the disclegis--they had to have pre authorization and it took awhile to get it. I was almost in tears at the pharmacy when he explained that the B6 and unisom is basically the same thing. My doctor confirmed that this was the same and safe. Eating crackers in bed before I even sat up in the morning helped and so did sea bands, the wrist bands that are for nausea. I got those at Walgreens. I think what made it the worst was that I really thought it would be done at the beginning of the second trimester and was worried I would be one of the unlucky few that had it last the whole pregnancy. You will probably feel better soon. Hang in there it is the worst!
  • Another vote for B6 and Unisom. I found that my nausea worsened if I was tired. Not only was Unisom originally developed as an anti-nausea drug, but it helped me sleep through the night, so it was a double benefit. I still sometimes take half a Unisom tablet if my stomach is feeling unsettled or I'm having difficulty sleeping, and I'm 22 weeks. Doctor says this is just fine.

  • Diclegis worked like a miracle for me. I was extremely sick and took Diclegis starting at week 8. It took all the nausea away. I was able to stop taking it at week 19 and still no nausea.
  • B6 and Unisom worked for me too. Definitely worth a try.

    GINGER ALE.
  • If you are actually throwing up and not just nauseous don't discount acid reflux!! Particularly if you experience heartburn. I wear a patch for the nausea but I also take Zantac for acid reflux.

Girl, for some poor women that's like a band-aid over bullet hole.  I *wish* it had been that simple of a solution for me.

  • I'm 21 weeks and I still get sick but... you could try preggie pops babies r uS carries them. Straight up ginger from a sushi bar. Peppermints. Drink as much water as you can possibly handle and some gatorade.
I also take zofran. There's a lot of speculation around that drug, it's for cancer patients but it works for me most of the time and my baby has a good heart beat, she is healthy and looks quite pudgy, and from what we can tell does not have a hair-lip which are all things that Zofran may or may not cause.
