3rd Trimester

wanting to be induced at 39 weeks.

My doctor has told me my pelvic bones very narrow and I won't be able to have my baby naturally if she is too big. Last Wednesday he did an ultrasound and his words "damn this is a big baby".. I really want to have her natural. What's your thoughts on being induced.?

Re: wanting to be induced at 39 weeks.

  • Being induced before baby is ready to come out can lead to a c section. Like pp said, ultrasounds are super notorious for being wrong about weight estimates. They told me my oldest wouldn't be an ounce over 6 lbs and he was 7 lbs 4 oz. Your body is capable of delivering naturally. Your hips open up when you're in labor. I'd you want to try a natural labor and there aren't any issues with you or baby, you can definitely insist on the delivery you want.

  • You should ask a doctor.
  • Go with what your dr. suggests. Just because woman a b and c can deliver naturally doesn't mean we all can. Your dr. has way more experience and knowledge than any of us to make that decision. Mine is also concerned given my family and reproductive history. I plan on taking their advice because I trust them, that's why I chose them to give me and my baby care!

I would get a second opinion.

  • They estimated my baby at 8 lbs 1 oz almost 2 weeks before my induction (I had GD) and he weighed 7 lb 11 oz at birth. So thankfully, it was wrong and usually are with weight estimates
  • Check out spinning babies for labor positions that help open the hips even more, also for exercises to do now to help you stretch. And talk to your doctor about your desire to try naturally first.
  • I wouldn't go by estimates at all !!! They estimated my son to be 7.5-8 lbs.. He was born 9.7 lbs ! I had some minor complications with him, they broke his collar bone and gave him temporary nerve damage up the left side of his neck. Both healed perfectly normal and it wasn't overly hard pushing him out given how big he was !

I wouldn't suggest induction to anyone unless your doctor strongly agrees it's the "only other option".
