TTC after 35

Good news!!

Hi all!!

I'm so excited that H and I FINALLY got a new insurance plan all sorted out for me!!! It doesn't start until August but it covers RE consultations, diagnosis and up to 3 treatments (not IVF, but ultrasounds, monitoring, drugs, IUI, etc.). I'm just happy that we're finally moving forward and that I'll be able to have more tests done and have more options to consider. We also found a new clinic since the other one was far away and the RE there prescribed me Clomid without any monitoring or anything (I never took the Clomid and after hearing feedback on here, I won't take it without monitoring). Hopefully this new clinic will be more involved and have more insight into what I should do next.

Anyway, I just needed to share this since I've been waiting for so long and it feels good to finally be moving forward. I know that a RE won't magically make me pregnant, but I'm looking forward to gaining more insight into what's going on and exploring more options.

Hope all is well and that we get some BFPs soon!!

Re: Good news!!

  • Wonderful!  I've thought about shopping for better insurance, but don't even know how to start-- I can't seem to find much of anything that covers fertility.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Congrats!  I hate dealing with insurance, although I'm on a good plan now.  I'm hoping to change jobs, and hope I get on a good plan as good as this one.

  • @KLake42 - I felt the same way but luckily H tackled most of the crazy hard stuff (and spent hours on the phone as well). We're both self-employed so have insurance through the MarketPlace. There's so many plans but a lot of the Gold Blue Cross Plans cover basic fertility costs. We'll see how it goes on this new plan...

  • Congrats!  We have our own company, so I'm able to pick and choose insurance companies.  They just all cost so much to include anything related to Infertility!  If you don't mind me asking - what insurance carriers have all of you had luck with?

  • We are both self-employed so get insurance through the Market Place. I got the Blue Cross Gold Advantage 1000. There were a couple of the "Gold" plans that offered fertility treatments. I don't think any of them offered IVF coverage, though...

  • With the marketplace infertility coverage varies by state. I have a Blue Cross Blue Shield gold plan PPO and it covers IUI and IVF.  I live in Illinois which is a mandated coverage state though.

If you live in a state with mandated coverage, but your employer has found ways around providing it, you can purchase a personal plan for yourself through the marketplace.  You won't qualify for any subsidies, but in our case it was cheaper to buy a plan and have multiple attempts at IUI and IVF than it would have been to pay out of pocket for 1 IVF attempt.

    Good luck to everyone.
    Me 38 DH 40
    TTC since Dec 2010.
Diagnosed anovulatory, HSG clear. Slight MFI- borderline count, but excellent motility and morphology
    Nov. 12- Feb.13 Gonal F + Ovidrel + IUI = BFN
Lap April 13. Found blocked tube and bridged fimbria. Opened tube and cut fimbria. All clear
June 13  Gonal F+ Pregnyl +IUI = BFN Stopped treatment with RE due to side effects from drugs and told we needed IVF.
Oct. 13 started Accupuncture and Chinese herbs- being monitored by RE. Getting better response- e2 and follie size.
Now RE says TI till March, then IUI. Fingers crossed,

    All welcome
  • Yay! Praying for success in the next chapter :)
