2nd Trimester

Flutters then no flutters

I am 18 weeks pregnant and all last week I have felt my baby move and I have been getting flutters in my tummy( which my doctor said it would feel like) but yesterday and today nothing no flutters at all I don't feel anything. I am worried something might be wrong but I'm not sure if it is me or should I be concerned and go to the doctors? Any help would be great!

Re: Flutters then no flutters

  • Some people don't feel flutters until 22/24 weeks even, I'm 24 weeks and my flutters are not consistent. I'm not sure I even know what a kick feels like but I may have felt one today. They say if you feel a lot when you are further along and then don't feel anything for awhile to potentially get checked but you are way to early for that. If you have no other serious reason to think something is wrong then you shouldn't be worried. That is why you will go every 4 weeks for heartbeat check.. To see baby still in there and moving!

I had similar experience and my ultrasound technician asked me about it. She explained that the kicks might not be felt because she (baby) was kicking the placenta, which gave padding so I wouldn't be able to feel. As your baby moves more, I am sure he or she will flop some way that you feel again!
  • Baby's movements won't be consistent for a while. That's why you're not supposed to start kick counts until 28 weeks. Baby still has a lot of room to move and flip around, so they're not always in a good position for you to feel his or her movements.
  • Thank you guys!!!! I felt her moving tonight :)
  • This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Very certain movement all of week 19 and then nothing the first 3 days of week 20. I figured my uterus had come up more and midwife confirmed that at out scheduled session a few days after. Flutter came back on the 3rd day late at night. I don't know about you but for me those lack of flutter days were really energetic, I think bc i didn't feel this low hanging weigh in my belly. Bump felt higher to me and less "in the way" as I was able to cross my legs again and briefly lie on my stomach. Good to hear it's back, I know the lack of flutters after feeling them kind of is in the back of your head...
