We made it to Oregon! So Happy to be hanging out outside instead of in the a/c. DS had one fussy, challenging day but otherwise slept a ton on the drive and was pretty chill. Our longest drive was nine hours - we left at 3am after his MOTN feeding, which worked great, we made it in 13 hours. DS loves being outside and snuggled by grandparents. And he set a new sleep record - 6 hours! That was wonderful in helping us catch up from our big driving day.

QOTW. I am totally a first born - independent, stubborn and too concerned with what other people think, including my parents, which sadly creates a little conflict with them.

My week was a blur of routine. Nothing has, nothing good. And here its thr weekend again, with more routines if housework, yardwork, groceries, etc.

QOTW: I was firstborn (of 5) with all the stereotypical stuff that goes along with it. Both of my parents were spontaneous scatter-brained non-planners and my siblings go to me for advice instead of them. Some days i take it as a complement, and other days it's annoying. Mostly, it's some of both.

Edit: had to correct typos. Probably an oldest child thing

    **siggy warning**

  • That's impressive @mindaa. I get anxious about 30 min car rides with DS.

My week is shaping up to be OK. This developmental stage, which has been going on and off for 4 weeks, has been quite stressful for DS. In turn, it has been quite tiring for me. But if the last couple of days is any guide, I think we might be getting a breather (until vaccines start up again next week).

We are in love with DS's personality. He's full of energy and very sweet (when he isn't whining). I feel very lucky to be his mom.

Vent: Every time I try to talk to friends and family about how DS is sensitive or needy, I get the response, "all babies are needy," or "all babies cry a lot." There are babies who cry/fuss more than DS, and some less. Why can't we agree that babies come with all kinds of temperaments?

QOTW: I'm #2 of 4 (middle child). And stereotypically, I make a good mediator. I wouldn't say I'm a 'rebel' but I am known to be a risk-taker, though I'm less reckless post-marriage. I also consider myself to be too serious to be 'fun loving'.
  • Interesting to read responses to this QOTW!

This week, I've been trying to transition to less pumping and more nursing, now that kiddo can latch and seems to be able to transfer milk without taking 7 hours per ounce. :)  Today I have only pumped once and am about to do it again--but that is a huge improvement over where we were a week ago. Weight gain seems to be on track, so I hope we can keep this up.

Today was also our first restaurant outing. It went fine until about 30 minutes into our visit, when he started getting fussy from the heat. It was only in the low 90s, but I think he was really overheating in the car seat.  Once we got home, things were back to his normal "witching hour" self (lots of cluster feeding and demanding attention). Now he's finally blissfully asleep next to the HVAC system (loves the white noise).

QOTW: I'm the younger of two; both my older brother and I are very independent and outgoing, which I think are qualities associated more closely with first borns. I've been more "successful" in terms of school and work, but he has a much better attention span and is better read/informed on pretty much every issue under the sun.
  • Not bad overall. We hosted a big backyard party on Sat (30+ people) and it went great. I'm trying out a new schedule with C, pushing her to stay up longer and feeding her at different times than before. So far I'm liking the results. If it sticks, I will share what we're doing.

QOTW: another firstborn here. And also I'm 6 years older than my only sister, so def an independent, stubborn, bossy, semi Type A personality. :)
  • Hi ladies, Am happy to move up to the parenting board and see some familiar names! :) Chloe is one week old today. I was released from the hospital on Thursday, and we've been getting into our new routines. We're still working on our sleeping schedule. Chloe really does not like to sleep in her bassinet, so that has been a challenge. We are also still working on breastfeeding. It looks like my milk hasn't come in yet and, even before that, she really wasn't interested in latching on. We tried a bunch of tricks in the hospital, and I have been pumping. We saw a lactation specialist today, and she recommended some additional ideas. I go back next Monday. QOTW: I am the oldest of three, and I definitely exhibit a lot of the typical oldest child qualities. I work hard, am driven, and definitely more responsible than my siblings. And I still work hard to not disappoint my parents, lol.

  • Congrats @jerseygirl227 Beautiful!

My week went ok. DD is really getting the hang of eating baby food and we just got our 6mth shots yesterday. She is doing better with each well child visit.

I have a twin brother and we are the babies of 6 kids in our family. I most definitely was more spoiled than the others. Probably because by the time we were teens the others were out of the house my parents had more money to spend on us. And I am a mommas girl. I still love hanging out with my mom.
