Rock N Play Regular vs the New Auto Rock n Play

Any moms have a preference for the regular RNP vs the new Auto RNP? I have read reviews that the auto one is super loud but is great to have it all automated.

Then again, I have heard so much about the regular RNP that I sometimes wonder "if it ain't broke why fix it" and I should just go the tried and true way of the regular one.

Any thoughts?

  • I posted a similar thread comparing PNP to bassinet to co-sleeper. From what I gathered, most people say it comes down to preference. I suggest going to your local baby stores and maybe testing out the Auto RNP. See if you think it is too noisy or will it be just fine? Is it too big? Does it fit in at home? Things like that. Also, store staff can be really helpful with this. I like asking the men questions, they usually are straight forward and tell you what is the most popular, highest safety ratings and what they used when mommy wasn't around and how they didn't panic. But that was my experience, hopefully when you go to stores, you find someone really knowledgable. But yeah, go check 1 out at a store and ask about it.

Great thinking! I went last night and purchased one of each (I'm having twins) and the manager didn't own one but says they are both top sellers. The other issue is that the non auto rocker one is SOOO much cuter.

So currently I own both. I wonder if it's weird to have one of each ... I know I am totally over thinking this. LOL

  • I just saw the automatic one yesterday, but had the regular for my son. It was amazing! It didn't have any electronic features (sound, vibration, or auto rocking) and it worked great! I don't remember even rocking it a ton so I'm not sure that any of that would have been all that helpful in my situation. What I liked most was that it fit right next to my bed at the perfect height for me to reach over and hold my son's hand while he slept. Like many things, it probably just depends on the baby. I would imagine that if the rocking feature does make noise, the baby could find it soothing as long as it's consistent.
  • My DD loved the original (we have one that vibrates). I only rocked it if it was in the middle of the night and she was starting to fuss (it was by our bed within easy reach). I wouldn't see a need for the auto rock unless you want it to move all the time. We had a baby swing for that though. She would hang out in the swing, but we generally kept our RnP for sleeping. It may just depend on what you want to use it for and what baby prefers.

  • I'm struggling with this same decision. The reviews are so confusing and not really that helpful. I'm leaning toward the auto rock because i sold yhe swing i had for my other two and am just planning on using the rock n play. Im not running out and buying just yet so still have time to think about it.
