Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

PGD testing

Can anyone share their experience with this? I just found out yesterday that we lost our baby at 10w2d. The baby had a heartbeat Thursday at the fertility dr and at my OB yesterday it was just gone. 2 weeks prior we lost the twin. We do have a 16 month old that also was a twin pregnancy until 8 weeks. My first pregnancy prior to this resulted in miscarriage. Out of 6 embryos only one made it and all were 5 day blasts. We are starting a new IVF cycle as soon as we can...I'm sure that won't be for another 6 to 8 weeks since I still have to have a D&C. We are considering getting the PGD done. If all our embryos test abnormal does that mean they won't be used? Will a normal one result in a healthy pregnancy? I'd appreciate any advice.

Re: PGD testing

  • I did IVF a few yrs ago at 27 and put two embryos in and had my daughter. I just did a FET and had a miscarraige in April. We spontaneously the next month got pregnant! Miracle! I met w my fertilty doc and another miscarraige. I am having a D&c Tuesday. My fertility doc mentioned doing pgd on my 7 embryos I have left, 4000 dollars. I know if embryos are abnormal they discard them. I am scared to death to know how many are good but also don't want to keep miscarrying. So I am really thinking of doing it. She is also gonna run bloodwork on me and my husband to see if we have balanced translocation bc that can cause miscarraiges. Basically a karyotype! I have been researching pgd but haven't talked to anyone yet.

  • I have not had PGD done, but know several ladies who were on the boards over the years who have. The answer to your question about what they do with the embryos is, yes, they destroy the embryos. If all test abnormal, then you have to start over. The reason for this is that they don't want you going through loss after loss after loss, when those embryos wouldn't survive to full term. I am so sorry for you loss. I know it seems terribly expensive, but given your description of your losses, it might be a very good idea.

  • Ya that's what I was thinking! Expensive but I don't want to keep miscarrying! Very sorry for your loss. The embryologist said 20% loss when unfreeze and freeze again through the testing. That seems kinda high. I have 7 embryos he said I was a good candidate I am just scared to know how many are actually good! So sorry for your loss as well. I have been taking out loans to do my frozen cycle last April and now another frozen cycle w testing. So stressful! My insurance doesn't pay for anything!
