2nd Trimester

Has anyone been told their placenta is larger than it should be? Is this something to worry about?

I went for my 24 week appointment and the doctor told me my placenta was slightly larger than it should be. She didn't explain much other than I'd need another ultrasound in 3 weeks. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or if this is something common.

  • Personally I havent, sorry. My sister and cousin both had the same problem though with their placentas. Essentially the placenta was using a proportion of the nutrients that the baby should have been getting-im not sure if this made the placenta larger than it should have been, bit the babies definately both ended up smaller at birth as a result. It is probably an entirely different situation altogether that you are going through, but it could be worth asking with your follow up if the bub is good size for its age. My sister and cousin both have beautiful healthy children now if that is any relief! Im sure you will be fine, sending my prayers! :)

  • Thanks @jencook25 :) I'm just continuing to think positively and not worry until I know what's going on for sure. I just see it as another opportunity to see my little guy and how he's developing.
  • I was told my placenta is shaped funny at my anatomy scan. I also got another ultrasound a few weeks later and all was well. 3 days away from her due date now. Fingers crossed it goes the same for you!
