Sleep without swaddle or sleep suit

we've transitioned out of a swaddle. It's been a couple weeks in the magic sleep suit and it usually works great. He'll be going to daycare soon and I was wondering how to get him to nap without the sleep suit. He can be so asleep I. My as and as soon as I put him down, if he's not in the suit, he wakes up immediately or only lasts a short time. I've tried letting him cry for a little bit but he doesn't seem to calm himself and I don't want to let him cry for too long. Any suggestions? He's 3 1/2 months

Why do you need to? Can they not put him in a sleep suit for naps?

I guess he can, I was just hoping he'd be able to sleep on his own when he starts.

I'm dealing with this same issue for my 16 week old. He goes to daycare in a couple of weeks and he can't have the sleep suit at daycare, only Halo sleep sack. He doesn't do well without. Unlike swaddling, it's hard to transition out of the sleep suit - you have to do it cold turkey.
