Anatomy Scan-Cervix Check?

I had my anatomy (20 week) scan yesterday (a few days short of 20 weeks.) The doc said everything looked great. I should be elated, but stupid anxiety is creeping in, again. I am now irrationally worrying about an incompetent cervix. (I had shooting vag pains last night which led me to google, and you know how that goes...)

Is this something they would have seen at the scan? I'm tempted to call my midwife for reassurance, but I am trying to keep my "crazy preggo lady" calls to a minimum. Any thoughts?

I wish I could offer a better answer but if your doctor said it looks great then try not to worry.

If the doctor said everything looked great, then i'd just take that. If you're super worried ask them to do a cervix check (typically a vaginal ultrasound) at the next appointment. Also, unfortunately shooting vag pains are common. Check out the Zeus post further down the threads for some reassurance.

Thank you. It just seems so early for this mango sized baby to be causing that kind of pain, but I think you're right. I wish I could turn the worry brain off for a few!

You have to remember it's not just that mango sized baby putting pressure down there. There's the weight of all the fluid your mango is floating in too. It's why I could never resist "lime in the coconut" references when I got to that week.

Have you had issues with preterm labor or a surgery such as a LEEP or D&C in the past? This is usually grounds for a cervical measurement at your anatomy scan. Some places do the scan abdominally, however some do it transvaginally to get a more accurate measurement.
If you're worried it wouldn't hurt to call your doc and ask! Chances are they probably looked at it abdominally and it was measuring within normal range

I just had a separate ultrasound to check my cervical length since DS was preterm. I ended up with the same tech who did my 20 week ultrasound with DS, she said my cervix was normal length at that scan, so they do measure.

At my anatomy scan yesterday they actually checked the cervix length. My doctor said it was long. So I am thinking your doctor probably checked yours too and since there was no issues didn't bring it up.

I had a slight bleed the other day and my anatomy scan isn't for another week and a half. I called the dr and they had me come in for a cervix check and ultrasound. They told me they do that at the anatomy scan too, but every office is different. I'd call and just tell them about the pain and see if they suggest a cervix check. Couldn't hurt! They might just tell you the pain is normal and that alone could ease your mind. I call the doctor about everything. I may be annoying them, but after having a previous miscarriage, I need the constant peace of mind.

At my first tri screening I was told they would check my cervix at the anatomy scan. So if you had the scan I would assume they checked it and would tell you if there were issues. If you're concerned just call and ask!

Do you have a history of an incompetent cervix?  If not, they probably wouldn't check.

I do have a history of IC and preterm labor and will have a check a my anatomy scan.  But I don't think it is standard.  It is transvaginal, so you would know if they had checked it.  ;-)

Lightning crotch sucks, but it's not necessarily a sign of IC. I had IC at 33 weeks, with no warning other than the fact that Inlost my mucus plug.
You should call to get reassurance instead of stressing. Drs and midwives are used to us all being a bit nutty- and they can help you feel more confident that your body is doing what it should. There are treatments for IC, so even if it should happen (which is a super slim number of people, so rest easy), a lot of times there are things that can be done to make your cervix more solid and keep baby where he belongs. Stop stressing and be happy baby is healthy and everything looked normal.
There was a post a bit ago on IC as a few women described how they were stitched(not sure what the post was called) either way it's a fixable issue if you do have this problem so try not to stress momma.

Oh it is a BIG deal.  I spent 8 weeks on bedrest (first in hospital and then at home) only up to pee and shower.  You don't automatically get a stitch (cerclage), so it isn't necessarily a fixable issue. 

I do agree that it sounds like the OP has no reason to stress.  :-)

Lurking from another BMB... I'm 26 weeks, I too get the shooting pains sometimes, Dr said it could just be the baby sitting on a nerve or could just be pressure from the baby, fluid and the position of the baby. I wouldn't worry about it !
