cough congestion!!

I am 19 weeks and have been coughing for almost a month now and it is getting where I can't take it anymore!! I've gone to the dr and they gave me antibiotics and an inhaler, but the congestion never went away. I wake up several times a night coughing so hard I get sick and it's very difficult to breathe. Everywhere I've looked has stated that I can take mucin ex and robitussin but my doctor never said I could take it. I have been really good at watching what enters my body, but I am desperate at this point this mama needs to breathe!! Has anyone else taken anything for chest congestion / cough??
