Heartburn?

I am only 18 weeks and the past couple of days I have had horrible heartburn. I have three other children and I don't remember the heartburn starting this early. Is anyone else dealing with it already? Tums don't seem to help, and today has been just terrible.

Re: Heartburn?

  • If you do a search this has been brought up a few times and you may get more suggestions looking at those posts.

My last pregnancy I didn't have heartburn until last trimester but this time it started from 6 weeks and hasn't gone away. It's a prescription but protonix works extremely well for me.

On the list of approved medications from my OB they list Maalox, Mylanta, Pepcid, Zantac, and tums for heartburn. You may also have to alter your diet a little. It depends on the individual what makes it worse but spicy food and seasoning, greasy and fatty foods, acidic foods like citrus and tomatoes are all common ones. Sometimes I've found upping dairy intake helpful or certain fruits like melon.

  • Good organic apple cider vinegar. SO swears it works better than his prescription stuff. I don't know how he stands the taste, but you can make it more palatable with water, lemon and honey. He just takes it as a shot. Gross, but effective.
  • Yep I've had it since about 6 weeks as well!! I was surprised since with My last pregnancy I didn't get it till just before ds was born, I'm taking Zantac for it
  • well I am 19 weeks now and have been having heart burn for two weeks now. NEVER had heartburn before now. Tums do work for me though...

    It's basically how I found out :)
  • I drink milk.... the primary care giver said use Zantac 75. I just drink milk...and avoid too much tomato. Pizza commercials give me heartburn...Sad right? Lol

I'd take heartburn over hives. This pregnancy made me allergic to tomato anything.
  • Tums didn't work for me so I started taking Pepcid and it has worked great...so far!

This is my second pregnancy and for both of them, heartburn began at exactly 16 weeks. Tums has worked for me so far, and will hopefully continue to work through this pregnancy. I am not sure what exactly sets it off, sometimes it seems that water does which seems weird.
