CVS test?

Hi there- I'm contemplating having the CVS test. My doctor thinks it might be a good idea but is not pushing it bc of the increased risk. I previously had a loss and I've been having some spotting. Also my progesterone has been all over the map. Just wondering if any of you have had the test, plan to have the test, or just have thoughts about it. I apologize if there is a previous post about this that I missed. Looking fwd to your responses!

Re: CVS test?

  • I've had previous mc's but am not doing the cvs or amnio. I don't want an increased risk of mc from the procedure itself.
I am doing the noninvasive nuchal translucency ultrasound and serum screen.
I wish I could do one of the DNA blood tests (like Panorama, Materniti21, Verifi, etc) but I'm having twins and my doctor won't order it, says it's not accurate for twins. If you've got a singleton, get one of those tests done first!

Do not do a cvs test!!! I miscarried at 11 weeks because of it!! I regret it every day!!

  • I'm so sorry @CicchettiFamily! Even though those risks are low, that is exactly why I won't do invasive tests! It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. :(

  • I'm also only agreeing to the non-invasive tests. My sister was told my nephew had all sorts of issues while he was in-utero and he came out perfectly healthy and she spent weeks of her pregnancy freaking out that something was wrong. I'm mostly doing the NT so I can see the little gummy bear again before the anatomy scan.

This is really helpful- thanks everyone!! And I'm so sorry to hear about your mc @CicchettiFamily. I had a loss at 16 weeks and questioned every decision I made up to that point, which is why I am so anxious now. I think I will pass on the cvs. Not worth the risk.
  • I did the CVS test for my one successful pregnancy. You can see my long m/c history in my sig. Two of them (and a 3rd suspected) were from the exact same chromosome abnormality that none of the non-invasive tests (at the time) covered. It was very painful. Luckily I had no issues after. I would only suggest it if the non-invasive tests do not cover what you are looking for.

This time the Panorama and a couple others cover Triploidy thankfully so I am just doing that.
