Told Wrong gender?

Re: Told Wrong gender?

  • Thank you Cook3133- this was why I posted my comment, because I have heard some stories before of this happening too like my co-worker- they told her girl right up to birth and was shocked to have a boy- so I was just curious to see if it happened to another mother recently. And because my pics were not that clear I was just doing some research.

If you are being serious then I suppose it is possible. I've heard a friend's cousin's sister's uncle's co-worker's babysitter had this happen.... my point is I don't know anyone directly but I've heard it's happened. I think it's highly unlikely though. Like you have a better shot at winning the lottery. Also I read that of there are mistakes made, it's the tech mistaking that it's a girl. If they tell you boy (since it is more obvious and in theor face) then it likely is. Hope this helps.

Shameless plug for Team Green here. If you're the type to win the lottery and as such the same type to have this VERY unlikely mistake happen... you won't risk the wrong info being planned on if you wait until birth to find out.

    Agreed! We're team green!!
  • Yes it is possible but please read the rules and lurk before posting cos wow we are sick of these posts and they go so wrong everytime! Are you not happy that your having a girl? I know someone that was told right thru she was having a boy and gave birth to a girl this was in Australia tho. They can get it wrong but doesn't happen very often

If your tech got a good look at 18w or later, they are probably correct.  Earlier on, it can be difficult to tell the difference because labia can be swollen.  They usually schedule the anatomy scans at 18w or later to avoid this confusion and provide a more accurate reading.  Not saying it doesn't ever happen, as PPs have mentioned, but it's not very common.  Sorry you felt people were being rude, this is just very similar to questions that have been asked many times before and more seasoned members can get cranky about answering repeats over and over.

I had a patient yesterday that found out at a 30 week follow up u/s that she is having a boy and not a girl as she was told previously. I also delivered a baby a few months ago who the parents had the sex written on a card, but didn't open it until after delivery because they decided to wait. It said the opposite sex of the baby on the card. These are not old wives tales. U/S techs/radiologists are not infallible. Experience makes a big difference too. Likely they will be right, but errors happen.

    **Removed for TOU Violation**
  • We should all just run around cursing out members and posting pics of our SO grabbing our vagina...

    Lolz!
    Me: 28, DH: 40
    Married 9/28/13
    DS born 11/12/15
    EDD 8/13/18
  • People have said a lot less than this and have been banned a lot quicker.

I don't think "fuck your community" can be credited to following the TOU.
  • I'm sorry everyone is posting terribly rude responses to your question. Apparently the rule monitors have a lot more time on their hands than I do to know what exactly is a legitimate question to ask and when your asking something that you should have known better than to ask. I don't have time to look at hundreds of post to know what has or has not been addressed. Also, I've learned that a lot of women think they know it all and they don't...so just follow your gut instinct. It's probably your best bet anyway.

  • I thonk the obnoxious comments on this page are ridiculous. Where does it say that this app is meant only for women who will post amd converse every day? Did you create this app if no stop being rude. I feel like all of you just use this app to take oit your pregnancy hormone frustration on people who dont deserve your rudeness. Give yoir head a shake ladies and act like adults.
  • I think its a littlw harder now for a tech to be wrong, with all the tech but does happen. ABOUT 10YEARS ago my aunt was told in all her ultrasounds that she was having a girl. And surprise on labor day she had a boy. So it might happen
  • @alisonrmc i think you need to learn the difference between honest and rude. Just because people do not agree with the original question does not make anyone rude. There's a difference.
  • I have friend of a friend who was told she was having a girl and when the baby came out he was a definite boy!!! They had to get rid of allllll the girl stuff and go buy baby boy stuff! So it has happened, but learning the sex at your 20 week ultrasound really is a perk, the ultrasound is meant to make sure everything is going well with a hopefully healthy baby!!! If I didn't have to get genetic testing for a fatal genetic disease that affects males 50% of the time, than I would most definatly choose to NOT find out the sex and have a surprise at birth. I don't have a choice though, I am just happy I am growing a happy healthy boy this pregnancy!!!
