I've thought about it. I've been thinking of investing in a nice DSLR camera for my blog, and if I do that I may take my own newborn photos. Still debating on maternity photos, though. A friend of mine did our announcement photo, so I may go to her again.

I'm very much on the fence about paying for a maternity shoot. I think maternity photography is really beautiful but I just don't know where I will display the photos other than maybe one in the baby's room and social media.

Totally agree with PP to keep poses natural. However, I did joke with a friend about having some off the wall maternity photos...like pregnant rock climbing photos.. :))

I too invested in a really nice DSLR camera at the beginning of the year for my newborn's photos.

Anyone know of any good quick online photography courses?

  • DS will be 3 in September, so I will have our photographer snap some (covered) belly shots then.

  • We are doing maternity pictures for our gender reveal. We've know for a month or so and have been waiting for our appointment to make it known ( family and close friends know already). Just taking a few. Fully clothed lol
  • I've done maternity photos with both of my other boys and newborn as well so I will for sure do them. My best friend is a photographer so she does them for free. :) I usually get her a present for doing them.

  • I'm not big on photoshoots... I did senior pictures but i didn't like any of the pictures they took.. My moms friend did them and she always does beautiful pictures.. But mine looked like crap.. I'm still on the no side of maternity pictures for me.. But that may change once I get bigger..
  • My husband is a professional photojournalist and mostly shoots video but we've got a cannon rebel with various lenses. He took some nice ones last time.
This time I want to get some family shots with all 3 of us and my belly. We've got a number of friends who are professionals too and they've done shoots for us and we will probably call one of them.

For those on the fence try finding a photog doing mini sessions. They usually charge $75-100 for 30 to 60 minutes and you get a set number of pictures.
We've done that with my daughter a few times and it's always worth it.
  • I loooove shooting maternity. I think calm, simple, and natural is the way to go.. Somewhere quiet and pretty like a park, forest, or beach. I don't go too crazy with poses and usually let my subjects dictate how they stand and look. :) Get a camera, @CarrieOct15 ! You can invest in a cheap starter SLR like a Canon Rebel and get good lenses later. Here's one I took of my friends: image
Love the photo! <3 Thank you for the tip. :)

  • I'm not doing one. We don't have a ton of money and I feel like I would be happier with a newborn/family session after the baby arrives. It would also be great timing for family Christmas pics since I'm due in early November.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Same as @VexedMommy, plus I don't feel like I would ever use or look at my maternity photos. But I will be getting newborn/family ones done.

My husband and I haven't decided on whether or not we'll do maternity photos... lol if we do, my belly will not be out in any of them (I'm quite self conscious anyway, and I don't find my bare pregnant belly all that attractive).

U shouldn't every .. If its stretch marks many photographers can Photoshop that out..
  • For those who will be taking pictures please share them here would love to see them . thank you all for sharing ;)

Great timing for Christmas! All the grandparents are getting framed pictures of the new baby and our family as presents too. Easy and something they want anyway.

We will probably do a full family session including some maternity in late August or early/mid September; we haven't done them in a long time.  SS just turned eight at the end of June, and we'd ideally like to beat the holiday rush and super-huge uncomfortable-ness that will probably be happening later on in the 3rd tri.
