Breastfeeding/Pumping Question

I'm hoping to find a bit of advice...

Does anyone else's supply plummet a few days before their period? It's so frustrating to hardly be getting enough to feed LO while she's at daycare. Plus, because I'm producing less, she's eating more often, so I'm up all night.

Any insight, advice, tips or tricks?

TIA!

Re: Breastfeeding/Pumping Question

  • While I haven't started my period yet after this baby, I definitely noticed it with my first!!
    Think it's totally normal!

I think you could try to cluster pump a few days before starting your period to try to boost supply? A friend suggested to pump during all commercials of an hour long TV show? Not sure if that quite how to "cluster pump" but it may work? Shoot, or was it pump during the show except for the commercials... Not sure! Haha

  • My SIL had that issue. Can't say for myself because I'm still period-free. But pumping more to boost supply is a good idea. Her issue was also a slow let-down, so that was the bigger issue for her. So she would pump before nursing to help with let-down. (I think I know too much about my husband's sister sometimes.) Good luck!
  • Thanks for the advice, ladies! Sorry I'm slow and short with replies. Feeling awful with sore throat and cold. I just can't win this week!

@noodlienoodles I just finished my first period after baby and I noticed that he wouldn't take the boob as much...I'm not sure if it was a combination of that and the heat...maybe I'll try pumping next month to see if that changes anything
