Meralgia Paresthetica

Had my 24 week Dr appointment today and I mentioned to him that I have had numbness and tingling in my left outer thigh area for about a week now. He says it is Meralgia Paresthetica and that the weight of my uterus and the baby is causing my lateral femoral cutaneous nerve to be pinched. Anyone else have this? Has it gone away or worsened?

Ugh, yes...and baby is only so big right now...how are we going to feel in the next few months?! :-SS

I just started having this numbness in my right leg, goes from my butt cheek down to my heel...the feeling is similar to when you sleep on your arm and it goes weak/numb for the rest of the day, except it's in my leg. I woke up with this the other night, it wasn't too bad, just really annoying because it was all I could focus on and couldn't get back to sleep! It went away during the day but started up again the next evening. It made my heel tender to walk on. I never experienced this with my first pregnancy, but I have had sciatic nerve pain in both hip joint/butt cheek areas. I had these sharp, stabbing pains in my butt cheek that would only last a few seconds when I would first stand up and start walking - that started a couple of weeks ago...went away...and is now replaced with this annoying numb/weak leg thing. 8-|

My next appointment is this Thursday. I'm assuming this issue is related to compression of the sciatic nerve but I'm going to mention it to my midwife anyway.

  • Yeah, ever since I woke up with it one day it has been constant. From what I have read today it looks like it starts as numbness/tingling and progresses to a painful burning sensation. Something else to look forward to in the coming weeks. I guess I am lucky though that its limited to just a 8"x5" area of my thigh.
  • At least we have a good reason behind it! Hubby showed me an article the other day of how skinny jeans are causing serious nerve damage in the hips and legs of young women because they're wearing them so darn tight!....would only be a problem for me if I could fit into them now :)
