TTC after 35

BBT Anxiety

I think I need to stop temping. I wake up ALL hours of the night, anxious (in a bad way) that I missed it. I'm not getting anywhere near my 3-5 full hours of uninterrupted sleep bc of it. Not to mention how exhausted I am. At this point, I think it's counter productive.

Anyone else ever have this issue? It's just been the past few days...

Re: BBT Anxiety

  • Yeah, it happens to me sometimes.  I'm pretty restless during the night anyway, so I don't think it's really hindering my sleep any.

  • I can relate.  I can't sleep through the night either.  I sued to wake up a lot, but would just glance at the clock, roll back over, and fall asleep.  Now I wake up and stay up.  last night, for the first time in days, I slept through the 1 o'clock hour (my first normal wake up), but my husband woke me up while talking in his sleep around 2:30.  I tossed and turned and took over an hour to sleep again.  I'm sure my BBT records are off since I'm neither taking my temp at hte same time every day, nor am I getting more than 2 or 3 hours each time I wake up.
  • Loading the player...
  • My issue with BBT is that after getting my cross hairs on FF I become anxious anticipating that it's going to drop past 11dpo or so.... So this cycle I stopped temping at 6dpo to spare myself the anxiety. I am now 12dpo and have no idea what my temp looks like. If AF is coming, at least I won't have stressed over it for 3 whole days.

  • The anxiety won't last.  My first cycle that I temped many years ago I couldn't sleep the entire night that I expected to ovulate.  It ruined my temps.  After the third cycle or so it became old hat and not stressful at all.   Try to keep at it a bit longer, even if you need a glass of wine to sleep -- it may spike your temps a little but the point is to get into the rhythm at first.  it's worth it!

  • I've been temping for about 8 months now and still feel anxious right before and after O-day. I feel like it really throws my temps off because I'll start waking up at around 3 or 4am and then keep waking up every hour. I take my temp multiple times and they are all drastically different. I also feel that taking temps post O-day can cause anxiety, especially if they start dropping. I'm taking progesterone now after O-day so it messes up my temp anyway. But despite all my complaints and the inconsistencies, I still feel the urge to temp because it's the only thing I really have control over in this whole process (I need to feel like I'm doing something).

  • I get anxious about temps. Definitely. I like @BulgariHeart 's idea about not temping after O. I may try that this month.

Question for the more experienced and knowledgeable: what happens post O in terms of drops for you?  I had though it went up and stayed until a bit before your period, but mine is wonky.  it climbed for about 6 days, dropped for two, then took a big jump, dropped for a few, took another big jump.  It's beginning to look like a profile of the Rockies!

Here's a link, I think, if anyone is curious and could help me shed some light on what's going on.

  • @amimhof it looks promising to me. Have you taken a HPT yet?

Looks promising to me too! Hopefully you'll get a BFP tomorrow!

Mine goes up and down both before and after O. The temp jump after O is pretty big though, so FF has no problem pinpointing O day. Then, a day or two before AF it starts to descend, still remaining above the cover line, and then finally drops below it on CD1.

  • @amimhof -- that is a nice looking chart! My temp is also more variable after O compared to before (if you don't include during AF).

Despite all the analyses and internet discussions you really can't predict pregnancy/no pregnancy from your post ovulation chart. There are correlations with certain patterns and positive pregnancy tests, but they are too weak to reliably be used by one individual. I agree with the above suggestions that if it is stressing you out post-O then it seems reasonable to just not temp for the luteal phase.

Knottie16743552, BulgariHeart for your input.  I'm not really stressed about it, more like confused.

I wasn't planning on testing yet, not until FF suggests, next monday.  The thing is, with so much trouble sleeping, I really wanted to take something to help me sleep.  I have a prescription that helped me sleep from a while back when I was having bad headaches, but it's actually an anti-depressent, so I didn't want to take it if I was pregnant.

Since there's still a chance, I picked up some regular strength unisom and hope to get a good night sleep tonight.
  • @amimhof -- sleep well tonight  I-)    :)   Keep at it with the charting and you will get a sense of your patterns.

  • Ugh, I'm having similar issues - my temps are all over the place, and I'm taking my temp at different times each day, as I get up at different times for work, etc. also, my husband wakes me up each morning before I actually get up as he leaves for work before me. So I'm also frustrated like you.
  • My husband gets up before me, so I temp at 5am every morning when his alarm goes off, then I go back to sleep.

  • I actually had nightmares last night that my thermometer kept getting to about 97 and resetting itself! Might take a break from temping for a few days, lol
