TTC After a Loss

Short Period After MC?

Hi guys. I hate that i'm on this board, and not the January 2016 board, but unfortunately I had a MC in May. I was about 7 weeks. My husband and I are trying for our first. I've always had incredibly regular cycles, and never been on birth control. AF would always show up 28 days exactly at the same time of day, and lasts about 4-5 days. I never charted or temped because I didn't have to. I just knew when I was going to ovulate and knew when to expect AF. Obviously we were ecstatic about the BFP, and heartbroken to learn that I was miscarrying. But a few weeks after my natural MC, I started ovulating and 2 weeks after that, I got AF, however it only lasted about 2 days and was very light the entire time. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm waiting for my next AF to show up in a few days, so that we can TTC after that, per my OBs recommendation. Just wondered if this was normal since I've read that a lot of times the period after a MC are very heavy. Praying we all get our rainbow babies!

Re: Short Period After MC?

  • I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I actually had the same question and was looking through the boards to see if there were any answers - my first period after my D&C was only 2 days with a day of spotting before everything started. I had major cramping those two days that lasted day and night - before I would just have light cramping throughout the 8 days. My cycle was about 32-34 days after I got off the pill but this period showed up a few days early (day 29).
My plan is to see how things go for this next cycle as I'm thinking my body is still trying to adjust to everything that happened at the end of May.
Good luck and best wishes for your rainbow baby!! :)

  • Thank you. Sorry to hear about your loss as well. That's very interesting. I'm hoping my body has just already gotten back to normal. We are going to ttc again this month, but I'm so anxious and worried that I will MC again. The OB said he had no reason to believe it would happen again, but it's always going to be a fear I have. Thanks for the encouragement!

  • I had the same thing. Very light first AF my second was heavier then usually but not overly crazy. Also my AF has been off from what it was originally.
  • My first period was 3 days and light. But that's what it was like before, I was expecting it to be worse but it wasn't. Think it just depends on your body.
  • I'm sorry for your loss. My experience has been similar to others. My cycle has always been irregular (25-31 days, average 27) and before I was pg they were pretty short, just a few days. I had a natural miscarriage and felt like my period came quickly (only about 1.5-2 weeks after I stopped bleeding, but I had been bleeding for 3.5 weeks already). I kind of lost it on day one because in the morning my "cramps" felt like they did at the beginning of the miscarriage. Talk about flash backs! But it was very short lived and now I'm sure I'm back on my regular cycle. I hope you're in the same boat and that we all get our babies soon!
  • Sorry about your loss too :( My cycle seems to be back to normal, for the most part. I'm still at 28 days, which was very typical. But now i'm having a shorter time between periods and ovulation. Usually it was about halfway through my cycle. Before my MC, I usually ovulated on day 14, now it's more like day 10. That seems like a pretty big difference to have that time just a week after AF. Anyone else experience this?

  • I am in the same boat... my periods last only 2-3 days now after my miscarriage (before they were probably 3-4 days, so not a huge difference). But they come and go without a trace now (no spotting or anything). We have our first appointment this week at a fertility clinic because we have been trying for 9 months now since my miscarriage so I'm definitely going to ask about shorter periods! Will come back and let you know what the Doctor says.
