Who's planning to cloth diaper?

Re: Who's planning to cloth diaper?

  • I'm just beginning to think about this kind of stuff and my main info at the moment is my mum who used cloth with me because that's all there was, and she still complains about how it was crap and wrecked her washing machine. So, ignoring the environment and cost, what is the difference for parents and baby? Some people mentioned chemicals, and others mentioned not running out. Is there anything else good or bad? Are they easier or harder to use? Do you get poop in your washing machine? (sounds yuk). Do they leak more or less? If you had a smack down with a disposable who would change the baby first? Do the babies actually know or care? And anything else interesting you didn't know until you tried it :-)

Cloth diapering has changed so much since you were in diapers. My washer is never gross. Newborn poops are water soluble so even if some isn't rinsed off it gets washed away. Older poops are dropped in the toilet and nothing really gets in the washer. The moisture is wicked away from babies skin so it's less pee up against their skin. Cloth can leak more but only because of a bad wash routine or your kids evens in it too long. I hear people complain about having to change more frequently but why wouldn't you change your kid after he pees? Why leave him in a wet diaper for 4 hours, that's gross. Ds has super sensitive skin so most diapers give him a terrible rash so he prefers cloth. I also bet it's nice to have your junk coddled by minky (a super soft fabric that a few diapers have on the inside) instead of weird gel filled paper products.
