2 day AF?

Hi ladies!

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July yesterday! I'm soaking up the sun down here in hot, hot, hot Florida with my H.

Anyway, I'm a little worried because I only had a 2-day AF. This has never really happened before. Usually it lasts 4-5 days and goes from heavy to medium to light. But this time it was one day of moderately heavy, one day of medium and then it just stopped. I've done some googling and most of what I find says to go see a doctor. I'm in the process of finding a new obgyn and in the meantime I thought I'd reach out to you lovely ladies and see if anyone has experienced this before. I don't know if it's related to age? Changing hormones? Something else I should be worried about? Or just a weird fluke thing?

Maybe I should just celebrate less time be tortured by AF?!?!?!  :O)

Re: 2 day AF?

  • i wonder if the progesterone supplements are altering your cycle? When i have done med cycles my af pattern has been a little different. Typical for me is having about 1/2 day moderate flow followed by about 4 days pantyliner level very light flow/spotting. After some of the medicated cycles i recall having moderate to heavy (for me) flow for about 2 days then done. I remembering getting caught by surprise b/c i don't typically have heavier flow tampons around (and i live 2 hours from a store)!!!!

Certainly mention to your OB, but if everything else is normal i am not sure i would be immediately concerned??  and yay for shorter AF?!

FL in July must be toasty!!!

  • @dolphin012 - thanks for the input. I did think it was because of the progesterone but this is my third cycle on progesterone. But maybe the progesterone is gradually changing things over time? It's good to know someone else has experienced a change in AF flow due to medication...

I'm creating a list of stuff to ask my new obgyn (trying to make an appointment at a place a friend recommended) so figured I would add this as well.

We're visiting my grandparents in Florida and are definitely struggling with the heat!

  • I've lived in SW Florida for 24 years and I still struggle with the heat.

I agree with @dolphin012 about your AF.

  • I also agree.  My medicated cycles always seem to be weird as far as AF.  I don't know if it's the medication or the progesterone.  I'd definitely ask, but I don't think you need to run in to your OBGYN tomorrow.  :)

  • @jilligan14 ironically I too have had another 2 day AF. Last month same thing. I wonder if it's the heat wave we've been having or stress, at least for me. For you, it does sound like progesterone could very well be the culprit.

  • @thistle8677 - wow, we've really managed to sync up with each other! Either that or it's the #cc (cosmic conundrum) still wrecking havoc with everything!

Of all the things about me that are irregular, my AF flow is the one thing that's always been fairly regular so that's why it seemed a little strange...

  • @jilligan14 same. I have seen a change however, since my last d&c in April. The bleeding is very light and aside from two actual days of AF I have a couple days of spotting. I can't tell if it's stress or what.
I don't want to think I'm not ovulating, since I did get a positive opk digital and a thermal shift, but who knows.
According to my dr you can't use temps to determine ovulation... (yes she said that, and yes it has me even more stressed out...which isn't helping at all!)

  • @thistle8677 - your doc actually said that?  Isn't this the same doc that doesn't "believe" in progesterone?  Is she elderly and old school or what??  Sorry, not to stress you out more!!

  • @emsmama15 she is actually the head of the department. I'm in portland, or. with Kaiser Permanente insurance.
Even if I go to a different dr. I face the same philosophies...because my dr. actually wrote the protocols.
I do believe these theories are actually "new" emerging beliefs..."based on the lack of scientific evidence", as she put it.
She also did not do fetal testing after my d&c as per my request, citing that this kind of information is not actually beneficial to determining cause of miscarriage.
I did have genetic testing done and it was negative for my dna being the cause of any chromosomal issues.

Sometimes, I just wish they would find something so I would know and could get some help.
Sorry. I'm just tired. I know I'm not alone in the struggle to ttc. :(

  • @thistle8677 - I feel your pain! They didn't do any testing after my two miscarriages. I researched stuff on my own and suggested progesterone to my doctor. She said no so I found another doctor, who tested my levels and they were significantly low. I don't know if that's the reason for my miscarriages as I didn't do progesterone testing at that time, but at least it's something. However, I feel like there are way more tests I should have done but it seems like I have to be the one to suggest it/push for it, etc (and often these things aren't covered by insurance :-( It's tough if you don't have the option for different doctors or a different practice. If you think your progesterone is an issue, you can get natural progesterone cream without a prescription. I've read some positive statements about women having successful pregnancies after trying it. My H researched it and found a really good brand for me but then we got the prescription and decided to go with that instead. Let me know if you want more info about it.

On another note, AF started up again this afternoon after absolutely nothing yesterday!! My body is just wacky...

  • jilligan14   A 2 day AF is nothing to worry about.  The doctor won't do anything other than ask you to take a pregnancy test!    My periods usually last from 4-6 days, but two years ago I had a 1 day, extremely heavy period and my RE advised me that it was not a problem at all.  Since then I had a 2 day period but still ovulated on time, etc.    Sometimes your lining just sheds faster than other times, and I do suspect that medicated cycles can rush things along faster as well.
