My LO hasn't gone to the bathroom in 2 days. His last poop was like playdoh. Is it safe to give him an enema? I can tell he wants to poop, he pushes so much sonetimes he turns red. I want him to poop, what can I do?
You can try inserting a lubed up thermometer to try to stimulated his rectum. I would call the doctor before you try anything like suppositories, prune juice or enemas. I think enemas could be very unsafe for infants due to the pressure from the liquid and the force that you would be squeezing the liquid in on their fragile intestines. You could also be creating an unsafe shift in electrolytes.
His pediatrician recommend we give him a suppository. We tried it and he went instantly. His poop looked like little marbles. He went about 4 more times last night but now he's grunting and kicking his legs again. Another suppository? :-/
We are having the same problem every few days. Our dr said suppositories are only if he hasn't gone for 48 hours. He also gave us a prescription laxative to give. I really hope this ends soon!
