Lurking with Questions

Hi,

My DH and I are considering adoption for many reasons. In many ways, it is actually our first choice above having a biological child. One of the primary reasons for this is we have some serious health issues in our family. My sister has Borderline Personality Disorder, which is highly hereditary. I have around a 40% chance of passing it on to each child. There are other issues, but to give you an idea, a person with Schizophrenia actually has a better prognosis than my sister.

Because we are going this route due to the health issues in my family, my DH and I were wondering if any of you knew which adoption option offers the most accurate health information about our potential child. We are open to having a child with special needs, but want to get an idea of just how much information we will be getting up-front. This way, we can prepare and gather resources for our child. We are just really concerned with having a relatively clear picture of the commitment we're making.
