Baby won't sleep...but isn't crying

I searched to see if this had been discussed already but didn't find anything.

I'm a FTM and my LO is 5 weeks old. She seems to be all over the place when it comes to sleeping. One day she sleeps great, the next not so much (which I suppose is to be expected with a baby that young).

I'm trying to establish a routine of eat, awake, sleep and honestly haven't been trying that long. She last ate at 1:30. I then changed her and had a little awake/tummy time until I noticed she was getting ready for a nap (doesn't take long with her. She can only handle about 45 mins.) I swaddled her and walked her around until she started to nod off. Laid her down in her swing and she got real wide eyed. I left her there for a few mins and she got upset. Offered a paci and she went to sleep fairly quickly. Fast forward 20 mins...paci falls out and she wakes up, but never cries. Has now been awake for almost 45 mins. Again, not crying. I know she's tired. We've had days like this before and by bedtime she's so overtired that she's super fussy.

I'm terrified about creating bad habits with her in regards to sleep. I'd love for her to learn how to put herself to sleep and back to sleep when she wakes up.

Any advice or suggestions?!?

I just let my DS self soothe and leave him in his crib if he's not crying. If he starts to fuss I go put his soother back in his mouth and rub his belly to soothe him.

If he gets really restless, I'll change him and rock him til he starts dozing off and put him back in his crib.

  • Have you tried swaddling? It really helped my lo.
  • She loves to be swaddled. She wakes herself up really easily if I don't.

I've been reading a lot about the wonder weeks and thinking this may be a result of the first one that happens between 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 weeks.

She's been taking a really good evening nap today so maybe I'm worrying myself over nothing?
