TTC After a Loss

just getting impatient

I miscarried may 23, I took pregnancy test following it and finally tested negative June 10. June 8 thru June 18 I had every other day spotting but not enough to even wear a pad and usually with one restroom trip it was gone for the day, my period is normally light enough for me to not to have to wear a pad as long as I can go to the restroom every two hours or so but I usually have some blood every time I go. So now I'm on day 44 still waiting for a period or a positive test. Still getting negatives. Anyone else waiting this long? How long till I should contact my doctor about it? I just want to know I'm not the only one cause seems like everyone has there's within a month or so. :/

Re: just getting impatient

  • I miscarried May 30 and haven't gotten my period yet (cd35). I hadn't been doing HPTs afterwards but did one a few days ago and it was negative. I know it seems like everyone got their period 28 days after mc, but I try to remind myself that's not always true. I started temping about a week ago but wish I had done so from right after mc so I could have known if/when I ovulated - since I didn't, I'm just going off of other signs (cm, mood, etc) to estimate when I O'd and when AF should hopefully arrive (we did not TTC this month so I'm def not KU). Lastly, I don't know what others will recommend in terms of contacting your doctor - we're out of town through next weekend, so I told myself that I'd call my ob if no AF by then but realistically that might be too early.

  • I'm so sorry for what you've gone through as well as what you're feeling now, the constant waiting is awful. After my MC, I got my first AF on CD 41. My doctor told me to hold off on calling him until I got to CD 60 without period. Hope that helps and hope you get an answer soon!
  • Yep, I think 60 days is what most doctors will tell you. It can take a while for your body to start ovulating again, and you don't get your period until about two weeks after ovulation. The waiting sucks so bad. I know how it feels to just want to move on. You might want to look into charting once you get your period back. I was amazed at how empowering it was to understand what my body was doing - especially in those first few cycles following miscarriage which can be really irregular. Beats the whole waiting around game and gave me something to focus on, and gave me some semblance of control when it felt like everything around me was spiraling out of control.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a good book to read up on charting, and FertilityFriend.com is a great free online resource for learning all about it. They also have an app.

    Good luck!

  • I did chart when I got pregnant. Tried to chart after I miscarried but I kept forgetting since I work graveyards it's little harder to remember to do it for me. I was planning on charting when my period came but the waiting is just so annoying :/
  • I didn't even start charting for my last pregnancy until I was already in my luteal phase, but it was enough to be able to tell I had ovulated already and roughly when to expect AF/to do an HPT, since in 8-9 months of charting (many practice runs with Paraguard still in) I knew my cover line sat around 97.3-97.4.

So if you have a strong enough history of charting, you might be able to tell from a few isolated BBT temps if you're in your luteal phase and when to expect AF. If you're still getting low temps, you're either waiting to ovulate still or possibly anovulatory post-loss. I did do a search of charts on FF with "first cycle after miscarriage" and the anovulatory rate is only 3%. Sometimes it just takes longer.
  • Mine was 42 days and another girl here was right around 60 days. Hang in there and I agree if you hit 60 days you should call the doctor to see if they will Jumpstart it for you.
