This is a forum for people to get honest feedback and suggestions. If I do not like that you've chosen Jaxcen (yes, I saw that recently) and you're asking for input, I owe you the courtesy of explaining why I do not like that name. Would you like it if you asked for feedback and I just replied with yes or no?
That said, if you don't like the tone or rhythm of this board, you absolutely don't have to post or read anything.
Actually i believe there are studies that support the bad name=less success
but thanks for sharing
I agree. Everyone should pick up Freakonomics and read the chapter on names. It's truly astonishing how much even the spelling of a tradition name can impact future outcomes.
When people ask opinions, you get opinions. If you don't want opinions (good or bad), then don't ask. I didn't ask any opinions on my daughter's (normal) name because I didn't want any. Pretty simple solution.

It IS okay that not everyone likes those names. But if you come here and ask for opinions, not everyone has to like "new age" names either.
I do think that occasionally people are too harsh or a little rude, and I don't like it either. But again, that's what you get when you ask for opinions online.
Plus, people are pretty good about not making comments about people's actual kids' names. But if you're trying to decide...that's what people are going to do.
Yes, there are tons of studies on this! Especially about how employers subconsciously discriminate against names with "unique" spellings (thinking they're uneducated) or names that are stereotypically African American (because racism), and also against feminine names (hellooo sexism and why some people want gender neutral names for girls). There was just some stat about how there are more Fortune 500 CEOs named John than CEOs who are women.
I could seriously talk about this all day - I'm a social scientist and LOVE this topic. But really, asking internet strangers opinions will get you....everything. I stalk these boards because I find them entertaining (I'm still TTC) but when I'm KU and we pick a name I'm not telling anyone anything until that baby's popped the f out.
TTC #1 --- BFP #1 5/15, loss at 5 weeks --- BFP #2 12/15, loss at 4+3 --- RE testing 3/16 normal, still trying for our rainbow
You're right. We should all raise our children to be successful in whatever endeavor they choose. However whether we do that or not. There are some names that speak before you meet the person. For example my husband is from Germany. We will not be naming our son Adolph. Pretty simple.
Things like youneek spellings, cutesy names even very "ethnic" names leave an impression before the person opens their mouth. I'm not saying that it's good or bad but just that it happens and that's real life.
Hahaha I literally got these earlier and it made me think of y'all.
I super love these chips! I haven't seen them since we left the FL panhandle! Sooooo good!
You can find them at Wawa gas stations!
Edit: because I didn't quote. Duh.

If I had to choose between two resumes, each containing equal experience and qualifications, but one applicant was named Maxtynn and one was William, I would choose William every time. Maxtynn is a made up name. I wouldn't hire a man named Maxtynn. I would assume his mother was an impressionable twat in bedazzled ass jeans that just wanted to go along with the crowd and gave her son some contrived, meaningless name. His father was some douche who puts gel in his hair and wears Ed Hardy T-shirts, and doesn't have the balls to put his foot down and tell his wife not to give their son some ridiculous-ass name. Those are the images it conjures up. Also, they drive a Chevy Avalanche and ride people's asses on the freeway.

That was so amazing. I'm giving you a standing ovation. Also, I thought Maxxtyn was a girl but I'm loving him as a guy.

@silverwood I am dying!! Well done you! We should start a thread where we tell you our names and you profile us based on it!!
The other issue is, at least in many aspects of business, you wouldn't hire someone with a name that makes you cringe because your clients are going to have to hear it.
"Good morning sir, this is Nina calling from Initech to confirm your lunch reservation with one of our market analysts at the Tchotchke's restaurant located near your office. Greg is out of the office today so you will be meeting with Dashton."
"... Dashton?"
"Yes sir, Dashton is another of our market analysts and is taking care of Greg's appointments today."
"You know what, just cancel that reservation. Have Greg call me when he gets back in office."
It's not fair and it's not nice but names will always bring up certain assumptions.
If I met Natalie at a bar and wanted to order her a drink, I might go for the martini list.
If I met Katherine goes by Kat at a bar and wanted to order her a drink, I might go for the whiskey mixers.
If I met Brixleigh at a bar and wanted to order her a drink, I might go for the vodka mixers for her and I'd have to guess at whatever beer her dad drank for me.

I keep seeing comments that this name or that won't age well. It won't work in the business world. That's actually a boy name. That name is stupid, etc.
While not everyone likes new-age names, others don't care for Robert, Mary, Christopher, or Anne. And that's ok!!
If a kid grows up to be someone who can adequately represent themselves in a business world, it's not going to stop them from becoming successful. Whether their name is Maxtynn or Bill will be irrelevant.
Focus on how to raise a child in a fashion that they're grow to be confident, respectful, reliable adults rather than bashing everyone who has a difference of opinion than yourself.

Hey now, I love Wawa, but it is totally blasphemous to say that ANYONE has subs that rival Publix!

I love pub subs, but they lost serious points with me when they stopped pressing them.

Eh, I am not a fan of pressed subs. After this thread, I had to grab an ultimate on multigrain during my Sunday evening Publix run. So delish!!!

Wawa can rival a pub sub?!? They must be the best sandwiches ever. (I'm in chicago... and the only thing I want right now is a chicken tender Publix sub)

Okay...okay, Publix definitely has a far superior sub, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how delicious Wawa subs were. And yes, chicken tender pub subs are the jam. My favorite!
