Bug bites at daycare

My son has been coming home with small red bug bites on him for the last two weeks. He is only at the sitter for 3 nights a week so I know they are coming from her house because he doesn't get any the other 4 nights when he is at home. His bites heal and then he goes back and gets more. I told her about it today and she acted like it's not coming from her house. She doesn't have any pets so its not fleas and she said she doesn't have mosquitoes in her house. Has anyone had this problem before and if so how did you handle it? Besides this little problem she is an amazing sitter but also very expensive. I have been looking for another sitter on nights since I was 7 months pregnant and haven't found anything better.

Re: Bug bites at daycare

  • It must be bed bugs ! Be carful you can bring them to your house just one can get your house infected and it's hard to get rid of them I mean HARD it's not healthy for baby either please try to find a diffenernt sitter ASAP

  • My first thought was also bed bugs. Yuck!!!
  • Have them checked out by a pediatrician. They may be able to tell you if it looks like bed bug bites, or something else. Good luck!
  • If they were bed bugs wouldn't her family be getting bit too?
  • Bedbugs would be my first reaction, too. But there are definitely other possibilities, so I'd recommend getting your pediatrician to check it out. Bedbugs are endemic in certain areas, so they are not necessarily an indication of poor hygiene or anything like that. I would have patients get really upset when I'd tell them about it as a possibility, saying that they keep clean, they haven't seen any, etc. but it is a difficult subject to bring up so it's not surprising that your sitter is defensive when asked. Instead of immediately changing sitters, I would first check to see if where your LO sleeps can be thoroughly cleaned. That might be enough (if it is bedbugs) to stop the bites.
  • They might be from dust mites. My daughter had these after being at my bfs mothers house. I found out she was letting her play on the floor on a mat and her house has dust and dog hair everywhere.
  • Since I brought it up to her he hasn't come home with big bites. He always came home dirty too like he was playing on the carpet. Not filthy but like dirty feet and in his fat folds. Now he doesn't come home dirty either so I'm guessing wherever he was getting dirty he was getting bites.
  • @KitKat0369 Glad to hear LO is now bite free. Little curious as to where they were putting him? Good thing you said something and alerted his sitter. Hope the little guy stays safe.
