Re: Back pain while breastfeeding...

  • Not too bad yet, but I plan on going to my chiro soon to get adjusted & I was going to check my nursing/pumping posture! I'll check back if she's helpful!!

I noticed when I was breastfeeding (I now pump exclusively) that I would arch my back a lot (probably due to the pain in the beginning!)
  • I had a lot of back pain nursing our first daughter. I have a "brestfriend" nursing pillow this time and it's a lot better.
  • I recommend a Boppy. Works awesome!
  • I recommend using My Brest Friend; perfect resistance, height, etc for me. I used to love Boppy-- until I tried this other one. https://www.amazon.com/My-Brest-Friend-Original-Fireworks/dp/B003TSDMH8/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1435815962&sr=1-1&keywords=my+brest+friend

Even with that, though, I get incredibly painful neck and back aches. My posture is horrible while feeding and I spend so much of the time looking down at LO that it cramps my whole body. If you figure any solutions, please do share them!

  • I used to until I read something by LLL. It said to put your feet up on a stool, ottoman, etc so your knees are bent. So your feet will be flat on the ottoman to bend your knees, not in a relaxing position, hope that makes sense. Use a regular pillow (I did until i got used to the position). Put the pillow on your thighs, & lay baby across it. Make sure baby is even with your breast. This is what I was doing wrong. I noticed I was leaning down but once I was conscious of her being even with my breast I stopped hurting.
  • For my LO will be four weeks on Saturday. I am EBF. Two weeks ago my neck and back on my right side started hurting horribly. I tried ibuprofen and then aleve. I wouldn't drive because turning my head hurt so much. Now it is mostly my neck but it is so bad. Just touching my skin hurts. Going to bed sucks because I have to sleep on my back due to other pregnancy issues. I make sure to work on my posture while nursing by having my legs up and such but it is not getting better. I'm ready to call my doctor again because it is so bad. Any advise?
  • A small stool to put your feet up, flat back against whatever your sitting, and being conscious of ONLY bringing the baby to breast, never breast to baby will help. Once I started being mindful of my position it helped my back and neck pain.
