July 2015 Moms

increase water intake really help low amniotic fluid?

Hello all you beautiful mama's!  I am 37+3 and have a follow-up appointment tomorrow to have my amniotic fluid checked.  If it is lower than it was on Monday, then they will deliver via C-section.

My due date is not until July 20th, and I would really like for my little girl to "cook" for a bit longer.

I have heard that I need to drink a "ton" of water and that will in turn increase my amniotic fluid.  Is there any truth to this?  Have any of you experienced this and were able to remedy it by really increasing your water intake?

Thanks in advance!

  • Yes! Start drinking momma! Good luck!

I had an ultrasound last week and was told to increase my water intake to ensure lots of amniotic fluid. I already drink 80-100oz a day and increased by only 20 oz more a day and the tech was happy with the amount and we got great pics with a 35 weeker in there!

  • Depends on the cause. If say the cause of low fluid is from dehydration then ya drinking water will help resolve the issue. If its from placenta problems drinking probably won't do it.

  •  I was told my fluid was low at 33 weeks -  I was put on a weekend of bed rest and told to drink a ton of water... it was suggested to aim for a gallon a day. When I went back my fluid was back up and I no longer had to be on bed rest. They did tell me that for the rest of my pregnancy I would just need to make sure I was continuing to drink tons of fluid and not overdoing physical activity it to keep the fluid level up.
