One thing I have stuck to my guns on that everyone called me crazy for (and still does) is extended rearfacing.
If you know that rear facing until AT LEAST age 2 is safest and you turn them because it's not convenient for you...I'm gonna judge you. Not that you care...clearly.
ME TOO!!! I am a big car seat safety advocate and plan to finally turn my littlest around once this one is here in Feb.. he will be past 2 years old. He knows no difference and love being able to see big brother in the back seat of my mom van!
I'm hoping to make as close to 4 as possible before I turn DD.
Yes! This. I'm with you ladies here.
Me too! ERF for the win!
I really want to keep my boys rear facing as long as possible as well, but i might have to turn them when this baby comes. Not sure how I'll fit two rear facing convertible seats and an infant seat and be able to get them all in easily in a van! Hopefully I'll figure out something. They'll be almost 2.5 yrs.
I'm trying to figure this out too. We have a Chrysler town and country so we'll probably put one of the captains chairs down. By 2.5, they'll be able to get into the car and go climb in their seats themselves which leaves us just needing to buckle them. No need to climb over seats either because one of them will be down
This is kind of what I'm thinking. Except I have two to buckle back there so I'm sure I'll have to climb back there anyways
I'll have two back there to buckle too. You'll find what works
I said that when I was in the hospital I and my son was born I would never send him to the nursery... After 4 days of intense labor with little sleep, baby was in the nursery a couple hours after he was born! Momma needed sleep!!
I try to be open-minded, because I'm sure I'll change my mind on lots of things, but here are some of mine:
1) I'll never spank my kid.
2) I'll never tell my kid he/she can't have a toy or clothing item because it isn't the "right gender". I think girls can and should play with cars and superheroes and boys can have pink things and dolls. Related to this, I won't dress newborns in overly gender-specific clothing, especially things that don't even look comfortable, like headbands with giant fake flowers or sparkly tutus. I think comfort is most important in baby clothes (and affordability) and I promise not be too "into" my kid's outfits. It's not that everything needs to be gender neutral, but it irks me when parents put babies in things JUST to display their gender.
3) I watched an acquaintance give her daughter sips of her soda. The first time I saw it, the kid was 11 months, but I'm sure it's gone on a lot longer. The kid now begs for soda sips if she sees a can in mom's hand. I'm sure I will cave on lots of dietary things, but no soda before 5 (more likely 7 or 8) seems like a no-brainer.
One thing that I thought of that I said I would NEVER do was co-sleep. My parents did with my younger siblings and they were 5 or 6 before they started sleeping in their own room. I cannot even imagine. What we ended up doing was baby slept in a pack n play in our room for the first month or so to make it easier for night feedings and such. After that they went to their crib. I think we have only had a kiddo in our bed once or twice if they woke up halfway through the night sick or something. Even then it's extremely rare!
@cantobean I thought I would be the same way about soda. In the end by about 3 or so I would let them have a sprite or something noncaffinated if we went out to dinner. It's something that is a treat for them and not an everyday thing.
