Trouble TTC

Meeting with fertility dr

I had an HSG test that was clear a few months ago, And recently my husband got the all clear. I was just referred to a fertility dr. by my ongyn and I'm a bit nervous because I don't know what the next step is. Can anyone share with me their first experience with a fertility dr? Thanks

Re: Meeting with fertility dr

  • Congrats on a clear HSG and SA.    The RE will take your history and review your HSG.   He or she will likely give you a vaginal ultrasound to count how many follicles you have, etc.   You'll definitely get bloodwork done to begin the diagnosis process, and usually they'll give you an overview of treatment options as well.

  • Thank you for your help. I'm just confused by the whole thing and I'm praying insurance covers this. Just getting a bit anxious.
  • You can talk to them about what your insurance will cover and they will help. I had my first meeting with my RE this week and Goldenkeys was pretty spot on. Since I have a diagnosis of PCOS already, she didn't do an ultrasound. She wanted to figure out if it's hormonal or insulin based to best treat me, so she ordered a huge blood work up. She talked to me about my treatment options, side effects, future benefits of metformin. She talked about what our plan will be if/when I get pregnant. She also mentioned genetic screening, so I got blood pulled for that. She set my husband up for SA and genetic screening as well, he hasn't done an SA before.

It's a good place to ask questions and let the doctor know what you have researched so far so they know what page you are on.

    Good luck!!!
