I have had UTI's before I was pregnant so know what they feel like... I have been having symptoms (Freq. Urination and pain) for a couple days now. Last night things got worse, just was extremly uncomfortable so I called my Doctor. They advised me to come in and get checked out, when I showed up to the dr this morning they said Appt only, and whoever told me to come in was wrong that I could just show up... LONG STORY SHORT... I cant get in to see a doctor for another 2 days and am in alot of discomfort. Have been drinking fluids and cranberry for the last 4 days NON-STOP...
Does anyone know anything else I can do/take to help?
Avoid baths as soaking can agitate you. It may sound weird but try an ice pack to sooth the area (I know a cold coochie isn't ideal but I dealt with a similar situation before and the ice pack helped). Keep up the h2o and cranberry, and if your doc says ok, some Tylenol once in awhile to help with the discomfort. Sorry you are dealing with this, I had one in my first trimester so I feel ya.
I struggled with this in early pregnancy, and you can't really take any of the over the counter meds without talking to your doctor first. I drank "just cranberry" juice. It not from concentrate, and is literally just cranberry juice. It is like $9 a bottle, you can get it at most grocery stores, or at health food stores. Comes in a glass bottle. it is completely unsweetend so it's a bit rough to get down in large volume, but it does help until you can get some antibiotics.
Go to another doctor to get checked up on, you can go to your primary Dr instead of obgyn. There are also clinics at pharmacies that you can go to. I wouldn't be able to wait, mine were always very painful and sudden so if the doctor couldn't see me I'd see anyone lol.
Totally unacceptable that they would not see you. Go to PCP or minute clinic or tell them to call in a script and you just drop off a urine sample. You need an antiobiotic and they just need to confirm that the bug you have will be killed by the antiobiotic but should start you on the course immediately.
Yeah I wouldn't be waiting, I can't believe they would even tell you that!! Your PCP, minute clinic or even urgent care would be better options than waiting.
You cannot wait 2 days or it will only get worse. You need an antibiotic. Call your dr back and try to leave a msg for him/her and let them know what you were told by his office, and if you don't hear back within a couple of hours go to urgent care or minute clinic. Any of those places will be able to write you a script. Good luck. People at dr's offices floor me sometimes and not in a good way!
I'm a chronic UTI sufferer so I feel your pain. Go to any drugstore and get some Azo. Doctors have okayed it for use while pregnant. This will help GREATLY with the discomfort and pain. It's honestly a life saver. You can also go to any urgent care and they'll do a quick urine test and prescribe you some antibiotics. Mine never go away by themselves and I've gotten severe kidney infections.
I have Kaiser so am not able to just go anywhere I wish I could.. thanks for all your help I am going to take some tylenol and hope i survive, am going to go to Urgent care at 5:30 tonight... seems so far away
You could also use online doctor scheduling sites (like ZocDoc) to see if a PCP in your area has an opening today and can see you. UTIs I can be a serious thing especially if the infection spreads to your kidneys.
Yes, UTIs are not good, especially when pregnant. I'm shocked your doctor wouldn't get you in sooner. When I thought I might have one I was able to get in within a few hours to get checked out. If your OB won't give you an earlier appointment, you can see any general care doctor or Minute Clinic who can prescribe you what you need.
Try cranberry pills. That with lots of water and cranberry juice (not cocktail) usually makes mine go away as I try to avoid antibiotics if at all possible. I think it's horrible that your doctor wouldn't see you asap as it can get worse and lead to kidney infection.
