How big of a bump to the belly is safe?

so I was carrying a laundry basket on my side and hit the other end on the couch causing me to run belly first right into the side I was carrying. It was hard enough I kinda bounced off of it and it's a little sore. So my question is how big of a bump is too big?

Ouch! I've heard baby is pretty safe in there. If your a little sore maybe I would just call your doc to make sure. I hope you feel better! I'm sure LO is okay :)

  • Baby has a lot of cushion in there.  Your LO should be just fine.  Just try to be careful.
  • I've taken some good bumps to the belly, I'm incredibly clumsy, and baby is all good. I would say unless you start cramping or spotting you should be fine. If you want reassurance you can always call your doctor and ask them. The soreness should go away in a few days. Our skin is so sensitive that anything brings out soreness, imo.

Youre likely fine! Like pp im the biggest clutz and my little girl is doing great in there. Ive also had a few "greetings" from a 120 lbs dog, he tends to jump right onto my tummy to say hi, and if anything baby just kicks right back. No bleeding or cramping means no reason to worry, i say :)

  • I'll echo PP's and offer reassurance. It's easy to worry, but baby is safe and snug wrapped up in several tough membrane and strong muscle layers.

And just to give you some anecdotal reassurance as well, last week I made a mad dash out of our gated yard after our new pup, who had fearlessly and joyously gone running into the street right in front of a truck. The gate caught on a tuft of grass and wouldn't open very wide, so in my panic over the puppy I just wrenched myself through and chased her down. Pup was fine, but my bump sustained a pretty large (>5") bruise on the right side that has just now gone away. I was pretty sore for days, but baby didn't seem to notice. She hasn't slowed down one bit. :)

I walked into a water heater thing, it literately protrudes out at the exact height of my belly. (I was turned looking at an injured bird and walked RIGHT into it :( ) I was super worried and I was very sore the next few days, but baby is totally healthy! Her HB was 160 bpm at my last appointment. Dr said to worry only if you bleed, have painful contractions, or feel lightheaded and cant keep food down. baby is super protected in there.
  • Your fine ! As long as the pain doesn't persist ! I have a very active 4 year old, and he's constantly on my lap and he will accidentally bump my belly. I wouldn't worry about it (: !

You should be fine :) I've had several minor bumps, especially now that I'm bigger and trying to maneuver the large belly. Also, my cat occasionally likes to use my belly as a launching pad, although he's learning that this is not a good idea (since I loudly go OWW!). Last time he did it, he kicked off on one spot and a second later the baby kicked back, as if to say, "Hey, watch it!"
  • I had my dog take me airborne chasing a cat and knocked the wind out of me when I landed with my first pregnancy. I did end up going in for an ultrasound but baby was totally fine.
