Back Pains

Hello ladies,

Do any of you know of ways to make back pains better while having to sit down at work the whole time?  I have been having bad pains the past few days from sitting down at work. I try to get up but I can't be away from my desk for too long. I am 23 weeks and I feel like I will not make it my whole pregnancy at work anymore.

Re: Back Pains

  • I (literally) feel your pain! Try to ensure you maintain good posture while sitting. Try to get up and walk around if they allow you (I presume they are willing to accommodate their pregnant employee(s)). It's hard to do the right stretches at work, but prenatal yoga helps a lot with that. Youtube and Pinterest have a lot of prenatal yoga routines to check out! Maybe look into getting a pillow to support your lumbar area? I've heard that a belly support band can help with back pain, but that may be more for those standing/walking a lot.

    Good luck!

  • Back pain is my enemy today! I see my OB tomorrow morning but I scheduled a massage to see if that helps me any. Hopefully my ob can give me some advice to help. It's way too early to be hurting this bad (although I do have severe scoliosis). Going to try some stretches when I get home from work!

    This.
Maybe also consider getting a rice pack or some sort of heat pack to help, assuming you have access to a microwave. I have horrible hip/lower back pain and heat tends to help.

I second heating pads. Also a pillow would be helpful at work. I've been having so many issues because I have a preexisting injury. When I told my doc I was having trouble he just sent me to PT.
  • A pillow can be a big help. I'm short, and my desk at work was a little high, so I also sat with a box under my feet. Between the box and the pillow, my posture stayed pretty good, and a lot of my back pain went away.
  • I've been seeing my chiropractor for my back pain. I, like a PP, have a prior injury that effects my back. I miss taking Aleve!

Ditto on the rice/heat pack. It's my saving grace these days.
  • Thank you for the advice ladies! :)
  • I get up and move around every 1/2 hour or so. Try keeping a heating pad at your desk. And last but not least bring in a big pillow for you to lean against. For me a lot of the pain stems from sitting upright with no back support since leaning back against the chair back is just as painful and I can't reach my keyboard and phone. Try just propping yourself forward a little bit. Other than these tips all I can say is maybe take 5 every hour to cry a little bit because man... It hurts like a mother, especially on top of numerous old injuries. Good luck!
