What's it like the second time around?

Hi STMs!

I am a FTM, and just wanted to hear from you who've done this before, what is it like to be pregnant again?
I know for me, everything is so exciting! The first time seeing the BFP, the first ultrasound, feeling movement for the first time! Also, pretty nervous too about plenty of things, like how will I feel during L&D, etc etc.

So I wonder if next time I will be more jaded and not as excited like now.

  • It is just as awesome!  And added benefit - you know what to expect, so there's no worrying over weird pains or other symptoms because you recognize it.  But I'm just as nervous about labor this time around, since it could be totally different and is an unknown.  I do feel like I learned a few things and am much more relaxed in general. Everything has a heightened feeling of specialness to me since this will be my last (planned!) pregnancy.  Not that it's any more special than the first time - just that I'm aware that I'm not going to have this amazing experience again.

  • This pregnancy is way better then my last ! With DS1 I had constant sickness throughout the whole 9 months and was even on diclectin to help and nothing helped, everything was so exciting yet so nerve wracking, I cried when I got a BFP because I was only 18 and it was so unplanned, he's here now and he's my world. This time around I have no sickness, I know what to expect for L&D We were TTC and got so excited when the pregnancy test turned up with 2 lines. This time was a bit scary at first, I had unexplained pains in my right side and bleeding, dr thought ectopic at first, but everything turned out amazing ! I'm 24 weeks now, and I'm so prepared for labor, I know exactly what to expect. I plan on going without the epidural this time, I know I can do it. Last time I got the epidural at 4.5 cms out of fear if I didn't get it then they wouldn't give it to me if I changed my mind. Before we found out we are having a boy this time we already planned for another baby, I enjoy pregnancy for the most part except I have SPD and it hurts to walk most times, I still love the kicks !
  • Going through a second pregnancy with a 2 year old is a lot harder than I imagined it would be. I miss naps! I was able to take afternoon naps my first pregnancy.
  • In some ways it's easier because you know what to expect but in some ways it's harder because you know what to expect!
This is baby #3 for me and I get just as excited when I feel her kick, or at an ultrasound as I did with her brother and sister. Its like how your heart grows when you welcome a new child into the family: I don't know how it happens it just does.
  • It is just as exciting and you have a lot more information/experience in your head so I think it's less stressful. But it is soooo much harder, more exhausting and less relaxing and enjoyable when you're chasing around a 2 yr old and feeling sleep deprived. My first pregnancy was perfect, This one makes me want to never be pregnant again and to sleep for days uninterrupted. But it is definitely still exciting and in some ways even sweeter when the baby moves or hiccups, I feel much more connected to this baby in the belly than I did with my son.
  • This is my third, but i find that all new things are just as exciting! I'm most nervous about labor because from first contraction to the moment of birth my labors were 7.5 hours and 3.5 hours. My doctor last time joked I should just live in the hospital for the last two weeks because I may not make in to the hospital at time. But other than the thoughts of oh crap this could be super fast (which has its perks and downfalls) i find everything super exciting! I found this baby enjoys Daddys focus much more than my other two (could be because this one is not the same father and my boyfriend is amazing!)
