Is Tylenol safe?

FTM over here, I have had a terrible headache for the past few days, I've tried not taking anything, but I have a bunch of teaching interviews this week and need a bit of relief. I have seen a few posts where moms have mentioned taking Tylenol. Just wanted to double check. My research seems to suggest so so. There is reasons not to take it, but not enough to completely warn against.

Just wondering what other experienced mamas think?

Yes. Tylenol is pretty much the only safe medication for headaches. 2 Tylenol with a caffeinated beverage is what my doctor recommended for headaches.

My doctor told me that Tylenol was the only medicine I could take without calling and checking first. I'm not sure about extra strength and other kinds but I would feel comfortable taking a regular dose of Tylenol.

Tylenol is fine. Actually, Advil is fine in first and second tris, too (insert another plug for The Panic Free Pregnancy here).

Re: Is Tylenol safe?

  • Tylenol and ES Tylenol are supposedly safe.  I took two on Saturday for the same thing, a headache that had lasted for days.  I didn't think it would help, as I've always been an advil girl, and the headaches were making me vomit they were so bad...but it actually did!!!
  • Thanks a lot! I will most definitely take one when I leave this next interview.

That's great to know! I feel the same way not normally a Tylenol girl at all. But when I saw my doctor and was trying. To get pregnant she told me not to worry about taking a regular Tylenol if I was worried in between trying and finding out, so I assumed it was safe, but since I've just been trying to play it safe I thought I'd try to tough it out. No more!

  • It's safe but useless for me. I just prefer caffeine.
  • I've been getting lots of headaches too. Fortunately the fizzy tablet Tylenol seems to be mostly working.
  • My wisdom teeth are coming in you best believe I'm taking Tylenol
  • Tylenol is a category C drug, which means risk can not be ruled out.
So there is some risk with taking it, but it is probably the safest drug to take during pregnancy.
I do not take anything (other than vitamins) when I am pregnant. It sucks, but I'm not willing to take the risk.
