Face Wash Problems

Okay, ladies, I am PRAYING at least one of you knows the struggle and can help me out. I guess my body's ph changed suddenly and, out of nowhere, my Clean & Clear Morning Burst scrub made my face burn and break out before even getting out of the shower. I bought the Neutrogena Naturals cleansing cream and it did the same freakin thing tonight!!

I can't not wash my face so do any of you have a recommendation for me? I would prefer something on the cheaper side, but, I understand sometimes I have to spend a little more when necessary.

Thank you so much!

Re: Face Wash Problems

  • I've heard a baking soda paste can be an alternative. Maybe that would be more gentle? I've never tried it myself, though.

  • Sweet, I will definitely give that a try! I guess I always shy away from putting oil on my face because it seems like it'd do just the opposite lol

Honestly it sounds weird but the biggest change I noticed was when I stopped washing my face every day. I mainly just use water and a washcloth. Then when I feel the need I use facewash, maybe once a week.

Since being pregnant I've switched to the Burts Bees for Sensitive Skin. It is a soapless face wash so feels different the first couples times but it helps. Any homemade or natural face wash will probably do the same. The more natural soaps are usually in their own section away from the big name brands.

  • @amorrison624 thank you! I think I've seen that stuff in the stores. I'll add it to my list :)

  • CeraVe is a great, gentle cleanser as well.
  • Cetaphil is gentle and cleans your skin nicely. I've used it on and off for years and have never had issues. Also, philosophy products are great for sensitive skin but on the pricier side.
  • Cetaphil to wash.  Bicarbonate soda as a scrub. A little tea tree oil on stubborn spots.  Rose hip oil or Bio oil in small quantities at night to moisturize.  I have had hideous pregnancy acne and this combo (which took me months to work out) seems to have done the trick!  Almost no acne now, and only a few scars left...
  • They must have the same active ingredient and that's what's doing it. benzoyl or sacylic acid? Definitely use something truly natural.. I'm not sure neutrogenas is. Do you have an outpost or trader joes? Would start there! Or for now worst case maybe just light soap and water ?

I had the exact same thing happen. My face would get itchy and red blots all over it after I washed it. Ahhh!
I switched all my skin care prodcuts over to Aveeno and it has been the best decision for me, personally. It's been super gentle on my face and body (also had developed a rash from my usual body wash) and leaves me feeling really clean.
It's frustrating. I hope you find something that works!!
  • I'm using goats milk soap for my face
  • I use the Neutrogena gentle foaming cleanser for sensitive skin- very similar to Cetaphil. I also stopped washing my face so much and it has absolutely helped- also loading up on Veggies and fruit for a couple days makes a huge difference for me personally.
  • I wash my face with coconut oil or olive oil. Sounds counterproductive, but it was the only thing that cleared my skin up!
  • I also use Cetaphil, and then a Boots exfoliator every few days. It did not keep up with my first trimester acne, but now that things are back to normal it's working great again.
  • Coconut oil or the Simple line :)
  • Yall are awesome! Thank you! I wash my face after I workout. Days I don't workout I just rinse my face in the shower. I'm going to return the C&C today and grab a couple of these suggestions. I do love Aveeno products!

  • I just wash my face with water and a wash cloth then I put on a Mary Kay moisturizer from the clear proof line they have. It's oil free I have super sensitive skin and it's done wonders for me :)
  • I've been using MyChelle fruit enzyme cleanser. During my first trimester my skin was horribly sensitive and prone to break outs and it was the only thing that was gentle enough but still made my face feel clean. I think Amazon has it discounted, so it's pretty affordable.
  • I struggled too until one day I ran out of face wash and resorted to dove body wash. cleared my face up completely.
  • Purpose face wash is really gentle too.
  • Neutrogina the pink face wash works so much better than cethaphil
  • So, I posted some about this the other day, but my husband has a reaction specifically to citric acid, including to his skin so all products from shampoo, lotion etc cannot have it.

We looked at so many body washes, shampoo products and soap(almost all liquids have it), funny enough this before we knew I was pregnant and we ended up getting head to toe baby shampoo body wash, went with walmart's knock off/better value stuff. It's soap free so good for washing everything if you have problems with dry and oily skin. I have used so many face cleansers, none of those are good to get in your eyes so usually areas get missed, but this stuff is tear free so no worries of getting it my eyes and I just make sure with a cloth or even my nails to scrub really good where I need it.

May not be a super deep clean if you only use it once a day, but with this heat I don't wear makeup everyday so works good enough. Also good for helping keep healing breakouts clean so they can clear up faster.
  • I don't use anything with acne treatment in it anymore because I realized it all kept my breakouts coming back! I use the Apricot Scrub (super cheap at nearly any grocery/ pharmacy) and Murad Oil control mattifyer moisturizer (pricey but worth it). It took a couple weeks for my face to heal but now that it has I have 95% less breakouts; just from ending the vicious cycle of acne targeted face wash and treatments

  • Dr Bronner soap in Peppermint is what I use. Squeaky clean face, it tingles and feels so good. I have found that anything with the little micro scrubbers in it makes me break out or get very red.
