Placenta size...?

I was just chatting with DH about Baby and started thinking...
Does the placenta get bigger as Baby gets bigger? Or does it just grow to its permanent size in a certain amount of time and stay that way...?

    The placenta does grow bigger as the weeks go by. This is gauged by measuring the thickest part by ultrasound. At term, the placenta should be no more than 4cm at its thickest part. Any more than that at any point in pregnancy must be investigated by your OB to ascertain possible causes.
