There's been a ton of posts where people have had early elective US that have been inaccurate. I don't know about this particular board though. It's certainly possible.
Yes it does happen in the grand scheme of things, but I'm not sure if many people have had that issue here with regard to the 20-week anatomy scan. Are you concerned about your personal situation? You can certainly look up statistics on accuracy of 20-week anatomy scans if you're just curious in general. This group could give you feedback if you are curious about something more specific!
We had a second scan and confirmed the first scan. I do believe there is a chance of it being wrong but as ultrasound machines become better and better that chance decreases. Plus if you get multiple scans telling you the same thing it's a good sign.
I have a friend who recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Unfortunately at 3 different US they were told they were having a girl. The first was at the a/s at 22weeks. The other 2 were during US to monitor baby's size since she has a history of large babies. It can happen and that is why most Drs will only say they think it's a girl or boy but don't give guarantees.
I was kind of wondering this too. When we had my 20 week scan it was obvious it's a boy and tech confirmed (not the dr because he was stuck in traffic and never arrived). I was looking at the ultra sound pics the other day and his parts look too big for a baby and I'm scared it might be the cord but I'm pretty sure the tech knows what he's doing so I'm going with what he said.
I go Thursday for a measurement ultrasound and plan on asking them to double check. The tech had a hard time getting the babe to cooperate and seemed unsure so for peace of mind I want them to double check baby is still a she.
My friend had at least two Ultrasounds before her third trimester and was told it was a boy. Then a month before the baby was due she had another one and the doctor says your baby girl looks perfect. She said what!?! And yes she came out a perfectly healthy baby girl after buying only boy clothes and painting the room blue. Two weeks before baby came she repainted pink.

Hi! I'm having a boy as well and asked the ultrasound tech how you can tell the difference between cord and penis on the scan because our sons cord was floating in a spot you could easily have confused the two. Anyway, she went on to show me visually. The cord is transparent in the middle where the blood is flowing and the penis is markedly more "solid". Hope this helps!
I have been wondering the same thing also. I found out I am having a girl, but part of me feels like it might be a boy. I guess I will just have to wait and see. Good luck ladies
This has happened to me! I had an early gender check at 16 weeks and was told I was having a girl. When I went in for my anatomy scan at 20 weeks I was told I was having a BOY not a GIRL!
I think a lot of woman hoping for a different gender ask this question, MOST of the time it is right when done by a professional. Not a fancy you pay 3d place but a medical professional. 5 kids and never a mistake here. As for all these optional ultrasound places that pop up in cities all I can say is in my town they are a dime a dozen and never make it to my next baby. I would not trust them.

Agreed, and obviously if you go early like at 16 weeks there is a risk of it being wrong. That is why it is traditionally done at the 20 wk appt. People need to have some patience if they want to accurately know, and realize that it's not a right, it's a privilege/convenience.
Baby was confirmed yesterday that she is in fact a girl and the tech was so nice and sweet to give me a better photo than the one I got at our 20 week, there's no mistaking it this time.
@caffeinatedkat I found out my son was a boy through 2D/3D ultrasound switching back and forth ! It was an elective sex scan ! But the woman doing it is well trained in that area !
Re: gender wrong
I have only heard of it being the other way - being told it was a boy and then a girl being born.
