Baby Shower Today and STRESSED

I wish I knew why I was not excited about my baby shower, but honestly I am not. I have been bad and checking the registry and am quite nervous now that almost nothing has been bought. I am also not looking forward to being the center of attention. It just feels odd to me. Anyone else experiencing this?
Oh and as for the registry, I have a large family and I think this is where my concern is coming from. I was hoping to get the pack and play and even the stroller and as I stated nothing is really off it. No monitors just some little stuff that I am sure is coming from friends. I am feeling as if even registering was a waste of time.

Re: Baby Shower Today and STRESSED

  • A lot of people will look at registries for ideas but then purchase the items separately. Don't stress too much about that. I get not wanting or enjoying being the center of attention, though. My shower is next month and I'm already feeling a little bit anxious about that. If you're anything like me, maybe it makes you feel better that you'll have close girl friends and family there, though. It makes me feel a little better.

  • I felt the exact same way. I cried on my way to my shower because I was so nervous of being center of attention and the possibility of having to act surprised when opening things I knew I got. It was a yucky feeling. The registry was a complete waste of time for me because people either didn't use it or didn't now how. I still got a TON of stuff and had an amazing shower! I got over my nerves and made the best of it. Then the next week my dad, who didn't attend the shower, took me to target to get all the remaining items I needed. A huge blessing and he felt as awesome as I did.

Being the center of attention can be stressful! My shower was 2 weeks ago and I felt the same way! In the end though I had a great time and really enjoyed seeing so many of my friends and family. I agree that the gifts are not really what I remember being important about the day! Honestly my friends hired a photographer and when I got the photos a few days ago that is what made me the happiest! I just want the memories that came with celebrating such an important event! I hope you had a wonderful time and enjoyed you and your sweet baby being celebrated!
  • Consider that people may have purchased items off your registry but not checked them off for you. I got a couple larger items that my aunt, cousin, and friends didn't check off.

We had 60 family and friends at our shower and baby got a lot of things--- even enough gift cards to cover what we didn't get (car seat, pack and play, and so on). Total blessing!

It was a little awkward to be the center of attention for me, so I feel you on that one. Just keep moving. I mingled a lot!
  • Many people shop on the way to the shower and some items may not have been marked as purchased. That said, the registry isn't a waste of time because it's simply a list of items you intend on purchasing. No one is required to shop from it and you'll still get the completion coupon. So I don't see how it's a waste of time. I created private registries for both this baby and my second even though they are obviously just for my use since I won't be having any more showers!

Obviously you would still take your time researching products and carefully selecting them when you have to purchase them. It's really no different.

This is exactly why I'm not having a traditional shower. The only family that will be at my "shower" are my mom, sister, and MIL. Then it will just be 8 of my closest girl friends. I am not a fan of being center of attention and I'd rather be relaxed and enjoy my shower then have to deal with my DH's crazy divorced family.

As far as gifts go.. I'm using my registry more as my own checklist for things I'll need. If some of that stuff gets purchased, then great. If I end up getting stuff that I don't want/need, I will just exchange it for what I do need. Try not to worry too much about all that :)
  • I learned with my first no one looks at baby registries. I got 90% clothes. Pink pink and more pink lol

I did feel super awkward with everyone staring at me but even though they are watching they mostly just talk amongst themself anyway. Just smile and say thanks and say how cute everything is.
  • I hate being the center of attention and wound up making my husband stay at my bridal shower because I was so anxious that day! He knows now in advance he will be at the baby shower! I turn ten shades of red (to the point where people have been concerned I am having an allergic reaction to something). So yea, know how ya feel. Hang in there and deep breaths!
  • I'm a spaz and always forget to hand them the registry at check out. Don't stress too much. Remember there is always the completion coupon!

I don't think it's a waste of time necessarily. I don't think I really got anything from mine with DD1 though! Lol people will buy whatever they want. I pick out a pack n play and my MIL picked out another one!!! :) I got several of the same item, that I still hadn't registered for. If you really don't like the item, or it's a duplicate, try to figure out where it's from and try to return it. If you can do that, just donate it to someone else or a thrift store. If people can buy you whatever they want, then you're allowed to do whatever you want with it.
I'm considering doing a teeny, tiny registery just so I can use the completion coupon to help with the expenses we've got to have!! So at least by making one you'll have that!

So how did it end up going?!

  • I had my shower today too. After everyone left I went through and marked the things off my registry that people had bought, but not had removed from the registry. And bonus! I got enough gift cards that I was able to buy the main big item I had not purchased for myself. I hope your shower went well. I was nervous about mine...dividing my time up amongst everyone, opening gifts in front of everyone. But in the end I had a good time and it really let me know how much support my sweet little girl and I will have!!
  • Glad to hear it all worked out for the best. It's easy to get stressed out, especially when you're in an unexpected financial spot. Sounds like you have a very generous and thoughtful support system!! :)
