Dates?

hi ladies!

I read recently that eating 6 dates per day in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy can help labor come on time and go faster.

1. Anyone have experience with this?
2. Any specific kind of dates? There were quite the variety at the store
3. Any recipes or ideas?

TYIA!

Re: Dates?

  • I ate 4-6 medajool dates per day starting at 35 weeks with DD2. My labor was 5 hours from first contraction to baby in arms. No clue if the dates were a factor but I'll do it again. I like dates anyway, lol. It was a dream birth.

Afterward I was talking to a friend and she said in her culture (she is Iraqi) women eat dates throughout the whole pregnancy.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.

I plan on trying this at the 6 week mark (my mom delivered all three of us two weeks early, so here's hoping').  The study that showed results was small, but it's worth a try!  You could look into making date bars, there are lots of recipes out there for energy bars that use dates as a base.  Also, in some recipes you can replace sugar with pureed dates.  Lara Bars are date based, too.
