What should we ask for?

When we announced our pregnancy back in May, my grandma(my last living grandparent) offered to buy the crib. Living where we do we really only can fit a bassinet, and eventually pack and play. We were given both, but might still end up picking out a different pack and play and using the one given to us as one to use over at my parents' house so we don't have to take down the one we have at home all the time. We aren't going to be able to get everything donated to us, so we'd like to use her offer to get something we're really going to need.(I have already decided that most likely we'll buy a crib for someone else in my family if needed since if we'd gotten a crib we might have passed it down.)

We have one car seat(I think rated up to 50 some pounds) and two bases for it given to us that might become the one we have at my parents' as well for them to use. So we were kind of thinking a travel system stroller would be a nice trade off since that'll be used a lot. But I want to hear what other people think, since there might be some other spendy things that we haven't thought about yet. We don't really know what travel system stroller would be best either if someone has a favorite would love to hear, need something that will work for awhile carseat/carrier and stroller wise. Light weight would be preferred because I have severe back problems, most likely I will be using the stroller around our neighborhood on my own often and we have one set of stairs that I'll have to carry things up and down. Only having help from my husband when we go out together with the baby.

Re: What should we ask for?

  • I would ask for a nice carrier (Ergo, Tula) since the stroller issue could be difficult for you and weari baby would likely be much easier than lugging a stroller up ad down steps.

  • If you do opt for a travel system stroller, I have a Baby Trend jogging stroller and I find it easy to use. The one I have is not technically part of a travel system, but it would be compatible with our car seat, and it's made similarly to the ones sold as a set.

It depends what your budget is - Baby Trend is at the lower end of the stroller/travel system price range.

I disagree. I have back problems too and even carrying a newborn hurt. I'd go for a stroller your infant car seat snaps into that can also be used for a bigger child later.
