Paternity Test...

Hi ladies-

Just wanting to get some opinions on how to handle getting a paternity test. I am 6 weeks along and the father and I have only been dating 3 months. We are best friends but he is wanting a Paternity test just to make sure. As much as I am trying not to be upset, I realize it is a fair request considering our new found relationship.
I am seeing Noninvasive options I could do while pregnant, or I can wait till the baby is born. Would it be best to go ahead and find out so we can solidify he is the father? Or should I wait? He said he would pay for it but I don't think he realizes the noninvasive ones during pregnancy could easily run $1,000...
Thanks in advance ladies.

Re: Paternity Test...

  • Just my opinion, but I think that if you are able to find out sooner you should go for it. It might make it easier for him to feel connected to the baby right away and in turn feel more willing to be there for you too.

    I would wait... No question.

    This because of invasive risks.
  • Is the early test noninvasive? If so, I would present him worth the cost and let him decide. If it poses a risk to the baby, I would wait.

Exactly this. Finding out early will allow him to bond with baby. Also, it would be awful for him to bond with baby and then not be the father (though your life is your life, none of us is here to judge!). Whatever the two of you decide, good luck! Pregnancy is rough no matter what the circumstances, t&p as you make this journey!

Yes I think there is a non invasive test (simple blood draw) that can be done after 10 weeks I believe. I would do that if he is willing to pay for it. It is between $800-1000 I think?? It would be better for him to have he confirmation sooner.

  • If it won't be a risk to the baby I would go for trying to find out early. If there is a risk then wait for sure. I would want to know and I'm sure he would too if it works out that you can find out early.
